win 10 failed update 20H2, error 0x800706ba. Help!!

So I got a notification that 1909 support is ending and to download and install 20H2.

But downloading does not move from 100% from few days.

Then I went to check the update history and got this error 0x800706ba. I don't know what it is and how to fix it.

There were some small updates, they downloaded and install without problemo. Only issue with 20H2

Some other things..

I use windows defender.. no other antivirus

I have tried sfc /scannow, it found some corrupt files but ultimately this issue still persists

I have tried troubleshooting window update, that comes with no problem

How to solve this

    Hey @LazerBomb

I don't want to upgrade that way, it's like installing a fresh win 10 again. I absolutely do not want that. I use this for work.

I want to happen it through windows update so it seamlessly combines to with existing version / settings.

    Hi,

    Update this way:

    Windows Upgrade

    Steps provided by Microsoft

There is an option to keep files, but have a backup in case

    Link: Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

    1. Select Download tool, and select Run. You need to be an administrator to run this tool.
    2. On the License terms page, if you accept the license terms, select Accept.
    3. On the What do you want to do? page, select Upgrade this PC now, and then select Next.
    4. After downloading and installing, the tool will walk you through how to set up Windows 10 on your PC. All Windows 10 editions are available when you select Windows 10, except for Enterprise edition. For more information on Enterprise edition, go to the Volume Licensing Service Center.
      • If you don't have a license to install Windows 10 and have not yet previously upgraded to it, you can purchase a copy here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/get-windows-10.
      • If you previously upgraded to Windows 10 on this PC and you’re reinstalling it, you don’t need to enter a product key. Your copy of Windows 10 will automatically activate later using your digital license.
    5. When Windows 10 is ready to install, you’ll see a recap of what you’ve chosen, and what will be kept through the upgrade. Select Change what to keep to set whether you would like to Keep personal files and apps, or Keep personal files only, or choose to keep Nothing during the upgrade.
    6. Save and close any open apps and files you may be running, and when you’re ready, select Install.
    7. It might take some time to install Windows 10, and your PC will restart a few times. Make sure you don’t turn off your PC.

    Cheers!

Good day! I'm Raniel, an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you.

Can you free up some space on your drive using the methods on this article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/tip.... Once done, kindly proceed with the steps below:

    1. Perform a reset of your windows update components using this reset script. Please refer to this article (ensure that you are running the command prompt as an administrator): https://www.yourwindowsguide.com/2015/12/reset-...
    2. Aside from the SFC, run the DISM command as well to repair system files

2.1. On the search bar, type "command prompt" and select Run as administrator

2.2. Type the following commands in order

    sfc /scannow then press Enter

    Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /CheckHealth then press Enter

    Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /ScanHealth then press Enter

    Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth then press Enter

    1. Reboot your machine and check again
    2. You may also use the Windows Update assistant tool to install the necessary updates on the machine: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/315963...

If that didn't work, another option is to perform a repair install of your Windows with an in-place upgrade. I suggest that you watch the video on this article(https://www.yourwindowsguide.com/2016/06/how-to... or https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repai...) for you to have an idea regarding the process of repair install. There should be no worries in performing it since you will select the option to keep your files during the process.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

    Hi,

I don't think you fully understand.

You can select Keep personal files and apps

I would really recommend doing it this way.

If you want to try some alternative troubleshooting, we can.

    Cheers!
