Trouble with random blue screen error codes on a new computer

Anonymous

Hi all,

I've recently built a computer for my father-in-law, and he's having some trouble with it.

Now, the problems have been occurring since day one. Though the machine can go for multiple days without encountering any blue screens, it will occasionally happen again. Sometimes multiple times in a day.

The error codes that we have encountered since 1st January are: 139, 1, 1000007e, 1cc, a, 3b, 4a, d1, 1a, 144 and 133.

I've had issues with computers in the past blue screening randomly in this way and it turned out to be faulty memory. Under that suspicion, we started trying the memory in different slots on the motherboard, and eventually tried every combination of modules in the channels (trying 1 at a time, trying 2 at a time, trying slots 1 through 4, etc.) but the problem eventually did come back. We then purchased some replacement memory modules, but the problem persisted.

We also suspected that the issues might be related to software or drivers. We have made sure that Windows is fully up to date, and that all of the drivers are up to date. We have also updated the BIOS to version F11 for the Gigabyte Aorus Pro B550 motherboard. So everything is now completely up to date.

We did encounter some unrelated performance issues with an external hard drive that was causing slowness in Windows, not loading desktop icons, etc. but this did prompt us to attempt removing as many external devices from the computer, except for the keyboard and mouse. The blue screen problem still happened eventually, though.

We are a bit stuck now wondering whether the issue could be hardware, software, or what. Our next course of action is to attempt installation of Windows on to a separate hard drive, to rule out some hardware issue with either the M.2 drive (or M.2 slot on the motherboard) and to rule out me having not installed Windows properly! If the problems cease from there, then we know that the issue is related to one of those things and can move forward.

After that, if we continue to get the problems, I do not know what to try. Replace the processor? Motherboard? It's all very time consuming and frustrating, and I have had bad experiences sending back faulty parts in the past and the vendor refusing RMA due to no faults found. My father-in-law is a pensioner and can't be dealing with that type of stress and floating that kind of money.

Hopefully somebody here can advise?

Here are the system specifications:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 3600 3.6GHz

Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus Pro B550 (F11 BIOS)

Memory: Crucial Ballistix BL2K16G32C16U4R 3200MHz (2x 16GB)

Graphics: PNY Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 4GB

Hard drive: Crucial P2 CT1000P2SSD8 1TB NVMe M.2

Power supply: Corsair CV650 650w

Here are all of the blue screen error codes between 2nd Jan 2021 and 20th Jan 2021, taken from the Windows Reliability History program:

I replaced the motherboard with an MSI X570 A-PRO and all of the problems have gone away.

    Hi Jan,

Thanks for this. The computer has crashed twice now, so hopefully you will find more information in these minidump files:

    https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjESAQJDRTw4iWl_GviC2vOyulWz?e=TOJXBj

Update: it crashed one more time and generated a new minidump, available here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjESAQJDRTw4iWpdgGz9jzwldxRe?e=fEW3Sx

    Kind regards.

    Aaron

All dump files did not provide the exact driver or device that is causing the BSOD. If you encounter another BSOD after the Driver Verifier is enabled. Please upload and share the dump files here.

    Hi Jan,

Thank you for helping with this.

I have made the minidump files available for download, here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjESAQJDRTw4iWQ3MRsPNPqtcXts?e=qzzPr3

It's a zip containing the following files:

    011621-9671-01.dmp

    011721-10140-01.dmp

    011921-10328-01.dmp

    012021-10359-01.dmp

    012021-11250-01.dmp

I've set up the Driver Verifier and followed the steps to ensure that more information will be logged for the next blue screen event. I will reply here as soon as I have that information to send over.

    Many thanks.

My name is Jan, I’m an Independent Advisor. I'll be happy to help you out today.

Please upload the actual minidump files and share the link here so the community can review what drivers are causing it.
