    A little more information, please.

What, specifically, happens when you attempt to download a file? Please give an example or two, including website addresses from which you're attempting to download and the complete text of any error message.

Can you "surf the web" with the problem computer? That is, can you visit websites even if you can't download files?

What browser are you using, e.g., Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, something else?

Click Start, right click "Computer" and select "Properties," then answer the following questions based on the information displayed:

    • What edition of Windows 7 is installed?
    • Is Service Pack 1 installed?
    • What is the "System type" (in the "System" section at about the middle of the screen)?
    • What is shown under "Windows activation" at the bottom of the screen?

Open Device Manager (click Start, type Device Manager in the Search box, and press Enter)

    • Please list all items, if any, that show a warning icon
    • Double-click "Network adapters" and please list all items in this category; if any item in this category shows a warning icon, double-click that item and report its complete name and its "Device status"

If Windows came pre-installed on your computer, you need to use the product key from the COA sticker AND that product key is valid ONLY for the version of Windows shown on the sticker, including architecture (32- or 64-bit). If 32- or 64-bit isn't mentioned on the sticker, the product code nevertheless is still only valid for the architecture of the originally pre-installed version of Windows.

IE 8 is extremely outdated. I'm surprised that any modern websites of any complexity will still permit you to use that. You have the current version of Chrome, so that shouldn't be the problem.

There are several updates that need to be installed after a clean install of Windows 7 sp1. Specifically, KB3020369 and KB3138612 You can download IE 11 here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41628

Most modern browsers, including Chrome, have considerably more safety features built in to protect users for malware. If Chrome is flagging websites you visit, perhaps you should rethink why you're visiting such sites. If you think the sites are safe, please give an example or two of these error messages. See https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/feedback/forum/fdbk_commsite-fdbk_getstart/how-to-include-a-screenshot-in-your-post/2594b08e-32a3-476a-85a6-b021181be7e4

You should be able to access network drives with Windows 10. You should post in the Windows 10 forum, giving specifics, including the complete text of any error message you get when you try to access one of these drives from your Windows 10 computer: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-networking?sort=LastReplyDate&dir=Desc&tab=All&status=all&mod=&modAge=&advFil=&postedAfter=&postedBefore=&threadType=all&isFilterExpanded=false&page=1
