Safely Eject and Remove facility icon is not displayed on taskbar.

The Eject icon is missing on my taskbar.  I have noticed that the icon can reappear momentarily but when I try to click on this to open my disc drawer, the option disappears and does not return.

I have looked on Device Manager and, there is a warning icon on USB Attached SCSI (UAS)  Mass Storage Device.   In the general details for this there is a message "Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal" but it has not been removed from the computer. (Code 47)   To fix this problem, unplug this device from your computer and then plug it in again.

I do not understand what I have to unplug and plug in.  Can someone give me a Noddy's guide on what I must do.  I was terrified when I read about Code 47 that this can lead to a catastrophic failure of the PC

    Well its easy to fix

    just do that

    If you can't find the Safely Remove Hardware icon, press and hold (or right-click) the taskbar and select Taskbar settings . Under Notification Area, choose Select which icons appear on the taskbar. Scroll to Windows Explorer: Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media and turn it on.

    Hi, HazGB

    How are you? Welcome to the Microsoft community!

    My name is Juliana, I'm an independent advisor, I'm here to help you in the best possible way.

    Below, there are some steps, which you can follow for a possible solution:

    1 ° In the Desktop click with the right mouse button on the taskbar and select the Properties option;

    2 ° In taskbar and navigation properties select the taskbar tab;

    3 ° Now click on the Customize option;

    4 ° In the icon window of the notification area, find in the list the option Safely remove hardware and eject media and change the behavior option to show icon and notification and click OK.

    After the processes, press Windows + E to open Windows Explorer, click the view option and options and click change search folder options and the restore defaults option.

    If the display menu is not showing, press the Alt key to enable it.

    If the same behavior still remains, Disable third party software and services from the system startup.

    1 ° On the Desktop, press the Windows + R keys, type msconfig and click OK;

    2 ° In the System Configuration window click on the Services tab;

    3 ° At the bottom of the screen, check the Hide all Microsoft services box and click Disable all;

    4 ° Now click on the Programs Startup tab and on Open Task Manager;

    5 ° When loading the task manager click on the Startup tab and disable all non-Microsoft programs (right click on the program and choose to disable), Close the Task Manager and click on Apply and OK;

    6 Restart the computer.

    Note: This procedure disables all third-party services and programs. You can later, if the problem is solved in this way, selectively enable the programs and services that will start with Windows, instead of keeping all disabled. If the problem returns after activating the startup of a specific service or program, the problem is exactly in the startup of this software and it is recommended to remove it.

    If the same behavior remains, run the Dism and Scannow repair tools by following the processes below:

    Note: These are diagnostic tools and assist in repairing the system image.

    1 ° In the work area, press the keys Ctrl + Shift + Esc;

    2 ° In the Task Manager, click on File and select the option Create new task;

    3 ° Select Create this task with administrator privileges, type CMD in Open and click OK;

    4 ° Copy the commands below, paste in the Command Prompt in administrative mode and press Enter at the end of each one:

    Sfc / ScanNow

    Dism / Online / Cleanup-image / RestoreHealth

    5 Restart the computer, test and see if the behavior is repeated.

    Hope this helps.
