BSOD when using FAT or EXFAT USB drive

So I'm having this strange issue, I get a BSOD immediately when I insert a FAT or EXFAT USB drive, NTFS works fine.

Even if I insert the USB drive when the laptop is powered off, when I power the laptop back on windows won't start and I get the same BSOD

EXFAT_FILE_SYSTEM error or FAT_FILE_SYSTEM error depending on the drive.

Strangely my external HDD is EXFAT and it works fine.

I tried all the usual troubleshooting but nothing seems to fix it.

So any ideas on how I can fix it?

Before I did a security update today I posted my question as to where I can get Sysmon.

It turns out that after I installed the update the problem was gone. I believe the update fixed it.

See below my comment update did NOT fix my problem.

Sorry for replying the wrong way I'm learing how to do this.

    Thanks again,

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

    • What is the Version and Build of Windows 10 installed? (Type winver in Windows search/Run command)
    • What is the make and model of the PC?
    • Are you aware of any changes on the PC prior to this issue?

In order to analyze the root cause of the other Blue screen of death issue and to find the faulty module, we need the dump files. You can locate the dump files in the location C:\Windows\MiniDump, then upload them on OneDrive and share the link with us.

    We await your response,

Hi, i'm almost having the same issues, FAT and ExFAT USB drives are working fine until you try to delete something from de USB Drive.

    Then i get a BSOD on Fat.sys or ExFat.sys. Stop Code: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

And i just tested with a USB drive NTFS formatted, no issues at all
