I have spent the weekend re formatting and hardware upgrades including BIOS to A17 . when i reloaded my windows and entered the product key all is good when i go to activate it Microsoft says the error 0x80072F8F is faced because a security error is occurred.Ive read the threads online that tell me it is caused as shown here."The error code will present itself when the system realizes that the PC’s date and time are incorrect. Error Code 0x80072F8F will also appear if the computer has determined that the time zone settings on the computer are not accurate. "

I have tried all fixwa i can find online around the date time issue but no success. Any thoughts would be most helpful.

I am assuming i cannot go online and ask for phone help as window 7 support is no longer.

Microsoft tech support seems reluctant to do anything for 7 users because of end of support.

But you will have to contact them as no one here in the 7 forums works for Microsoft, Microsoft doesn't look and these 7 forums and we can't activate it for you.

It's not just date and time.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/10738/windows-10-get-help-with-activation-errors

    Applies to: Windows 10Windows 7Windows 8.1

0x80072F8F You might see this error if the date and time for the PC is incorrect, or Windows has trouble connecting to the online activation service and can't verify your product key.To verify date and time, select the Start  button, then select Settings  > Time & language > Date & time.To check your Internet connection:<ol><li><p>Type <strong>network troubleshooter </strong>in the search box on the taskbar, then select <strong>Identify and repair network problems</strong>.</p></li><li><p>Follow the instructions to fix any problems with the network.</p></li></ol>If the network troubleshooter didn't find any problems with your network connection, try restarting your PC to see if that fixes the problem.

    If that is not it:

    Contact Microsoft:

Activate Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 - Windows Help - Microsoft Support

When you begin activation, Windows will try to use your Internet connection to activate online. If you have problems activating online, you can activate using the phone.

    Bill

    Thanks for for.

I took a chance and hit the option in activation to call Microsoft. Luckily they have switched assistance to a computer generated voice that prompts you do read information from your activation screen on your PC then  it reads you back a verification code for you to enter to the activation screen . After a few minutes the activation process completed and I have a genuine version of Windows again.

Very simple process after having tried the date and region adjustments for the last couple of days.

    Thank you

    Steve
