Restore from Backup on External Hard Drive

I had to send my laptop to get repaired, so I backed up my laptop onto an external hard drive. I have gotten my laptop back, and as expected, everything is gone. I am trying to restore from my backup, but it does not seem to be working. I created the backup with Windows 10, so "Go to backup and restore (Windows 7)" is not applicable. I click "more options" under Backup Using File History since that is how I created my backup, and it shows that I am using my external hard drive. I scroll to the bottom to "restore files from current backup." However, a file history page comes up, and this is where I am lost. There are no files in my file history, and I can't access my external hard drive to select that location to restore from. I even copied my backup onto the laptop itself, and I still can't find it to restore from. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong or where to go from here. All other community posts and google searches say that I just have to select the backed up file that I want to restore, but they don't address if those files don't show up in the first place. Any help would be appreciated.

You need to take these steps:

    1. Connect the external backup disk.
    2. Launch File History.
    3. Click "Select drive".
    4. Select the drive, then tick "I want to use . . ."
    5. Click "Yes" on this panel:

You can now restore your personal files.
