Lexmark scan installation

I have a new Lexmark MC3224dwe printer. I installed it by adding a device which works fine and it automatically installed a Microsoft driver

and appears correctly in printers. In device manager the printer appears as Microsoft IPP class driver.

My problem is that I can't install the scanner so that it works with Microsoft scan. At present in Device manager it doesn't appear in the imaging devices.  Any suggestions please?

I don't want to use the Lexmark software, Microsoft one is better.

Hi @BrianHolmes2, your post is very welcome in our community.

My name is William. I'm an Independent Consultant and a long-time user also. I am grateful to assist you today.

I understand how difficult it is when the device or app won't work in the way you expect, but Microsoft drivers are generic and work only for basic functions.

In order for you to take advantage of all the features of your printer, it is always necessary to install the latest drivers that manufacturers make available on their websites and this is even more necessary when it comes to a new printer model like yours:

Note in the image that Lexmark made several new drivers available last month and this leads us to believe that the old ones no longer work correctly for Windows OS after receiving the recent updates:

I understand that you would like to use the internal Windows drivers, but due to your need, it is recommended that you install the manufacturer's drivers.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance regarding this matter?

    Thanks for your time.

    Best Regards

    Hi William,

Thank you for your time and trouble. Whilst I understand and applaud efforts to improve and offer more  features, there are many  users like me that only need basic functions. However I see what you are saying, so I loaded the scanner driver released March 18th but I haven't found a way to scan. The Lexmark still does not show in device manager and Windows fax and scan doesn't see it. I haven't tried scanning using the printer keys as it is too small for my fat fingers. Perhaps I purchased the wrong printer.

Any further advice would be appreciated

Try installing the Lexmark scanner software. Windows Scan needs that to work. MS doesn't have scanner drivers You need Lexmark drivers to use a scanner. You should install all the drivers for the printer so you can use the printer /scanner buttons on the unit. Also printers have improved. You are missing out on special feaures. Check the Lexmark support site.

Thanks, but the printer screen is too small and is a problem for me to use on a regular basis.

When I installed all the Lexmark drivers and software it worked okay but extra features always mean more entries to get a result, when mostly I want a straightforward print or JPEG scan.

The Microsoft print driver works fine, perhaps I will just have to use the Lexmark scan software even though it isn't my preference.

    regards,  Brian
