Defender update download errors on both antivirus and antimalware

Ever since the latest update I got for my windows home version about a week ago I have been getting an error message (0x80070643). It first started on an update for the antimalware and now I am also getting the same message for the virus updates.

What good is using windows defender to protect my computer if when you make updates to the windows home version it screws up the virus protection.

Please let me know when you are going to fix this problem as soon as possible. I really don't want to have to restore my computer again to fix this problem. I lost all my information the last time one of your updates trashed my computer.

I just had the same error code 0x80070643 updating a fresh install of Windows 10 20H2 - it was stuck on Retrying KB2267602 installation under windows updates.

To resolve it I went into Settings > Virus & Threat Protection > Virus & Threat Updates > Check for Updates > Check for updates (again!) and then it fixed it and the error went away in Windows Update.

    Hi Edand,

Update KB4052623 v4.18.2101.9-0 occurred about a week ago. If that is the one that you suspect is

causing your problem, you may be able to revert this update to its previous level.

This is an update to the Defender AntiMalware Platform. And you can see this update by ensuring that

"Hidden Files" is checked in Explorer under the View Tab, and navigating to *C:\ProgramData\Microsoft*

    Windows Defender\Platform.

At that location you should see this Platform version, and the previous

    version, as well.

See this link for the authorization for the "revert" process. Scroll down to "How to Roll Back This Update

    To The Previous Version.

In Command Prompt (Admin) Type this command described there.

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Platform\4.18.2101.9-0\MpCmdRun.exe -RevertPlatform

    and hit <enter>

    Exit <enter>

Restart your PC, then Check for Updates again. Hopefully, they install OK now.

When Microsoft does offer the Platform update again, go ahead and let install. It doesn't appear to

    be causing any problems elsewhere.

Sorry for the unusual "Spacing" in this Post. Microsoft's new edition for this program seems to have

a mind of its own! The command above should read ........\MpCmdRun.exe -RevertPlatform.

    Good Luck, Glen

The command prompt keeps telling me that the system can not find the path specified.

    Hi Edand,

Another response here that could fix your problem. If you use this link https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10, you can reinstall windows and keep your files. you have to use the tool (The installation media tool) And it will update your software by installing windows again, you can also keep your files which makes it safe.

Hope you have a good day.

    Kind regards Jack
