The account keeps causing problems like preventing me from switching security settings, and cannot do anything that needs administrive permissions. I need the fix ASAP (it fixed but after a restart the same problem occured).

    Hi upcomingITpro

How are you? I hope you are doing good.

Welcome to Microsoft Community. I am Juliet, an independent advisor and a user like you.

It's my pleasure to help you today. I know how frustrating this may be for you but I'll do my best to help you :)

Note that you should still have created at least one administrative account as an alternative, so you won't lose admin rights to Windows after deleting the built-in Administrator account.

How to Delete Built-in Administrator Account?

(Please refer on the link below, for screenshots)

Press the Windows key + R to open the Run command box. Type regedit and press Enter.

Once the Windows Registry is opened, navigate to the SAM key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SAM\SAM.

Right-click the SAM key and select Permissions from the context menu.

The above action will open the Permissions window. Select the Administrators group and check Allow checkbox in the Full Control row, and click OK.

Now, back to the Registry Editor window. Select the SAM key in the left pane and press F5 to refresh registry.

You can continue expanding to the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SAM\SAM\Domains\Account\Users\Names. You will find a list of all user accounts on the machine. To delete Windows's built-in Administrator account, right-click the Administrator name and select Delete.

Close Registry Editor and restart your computer. When you open the Local Users and Groups window, you'll find the built-in Administrator account was deleted successfully.

I hope it helps! Let us know the result,

    We'll wait for your update.

You need to be aware of a couple of a few things:

    • Inbuilt accounts can be deactivated but not removed.
    • The presence of one account does not interfere with any other account.
    • All admin accounts have the same privileges.

I suspect you're misinterpreting some error message. To illustrate your problem, please use snippingtool.exe to create a snapshot of the message you see, then paste it into your reply.

    HIupcomingITpro

Open Settings and click Accounts Click on "Family and other users" on the left, click on the account you want to delete and select "Delete". Click Delete Account and Details to confirm the account deletion

Note that your computer must have one Administrator account, so you may want to create a new Administrator on your wife's computer before deleting your own account. :)

    Regards,
