Hi Uday Here , Hope every thing is fine out there.

I don't know why my Mouse Pointer works in a weird fashion. Like for some time it works absolutely fine and after few minutes it will stop working for a while like about 2 minutes.

I have seen a few posts in Internet on this issues .

Note:- I have Synaptics SMBus Touchpad and i don't have HID-complement mouse

As u can see that's my Device Manager tab, And its factory given state.

And this is my Synaptics Driver condition

When i update my drivers the mouse cursor completely disappears for the screen and forces me to roll back to previous version.

I have also completely updated my Windows

And this is the about section of my laptop

Please help me out, If any other information is needed let me know i will provide it.

Firstly I would like to Thank you for your patience and kind response for my problem .

As mentioned in point 1 , while following that step I came across another driver with the same name "Synaptics SMBus Driver" I was wondering when there is already a Synaptics SMBus Driver in Mics and pointing devices why is there another driver with the same name in System Devices section , After disableing that driver my pointer is working fine , here are a few screenshots of that driver.

As you can see (last 3rd driver ) Synaptics SMBus driver after disabling that and updating my mics and pointing devices solved my problem. As you can see that mice and pointing devices also have Synaptics SMBus Driver with the same name updating this after disabling that solved my problem.

Hi Uday. I'm Greg, awarded MVP for eleven years, Volunteer Moderator, and Independent Advisor here to help you until this is resolved.

    1. How are you trying to update the driver? Have you tried updating the Touchpad driver from the PC maker's Support Downloads webpage for your exact model, Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker on PC?

While there check for the latest Chipset (covers SMBus), BIOS, Sound, Network, USB3, Bluetooth and all other drivers to compare with the version/date installled for that device in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

    1. If that doesn't help then enter Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button, go to Mice > Touchpad and then Driver tab. Choose Update Driver, then Automatic to see if it gets a better driver that resolves the problem. If not try Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick to try all previously installed drivers.
    2. If that doesn't work then try uninstalling driver, Restart PC using keyboard to Ctrl Alt Del, on blue screen tab to Power Icon in bottom right, press Enter, arrow down to Restart, press Enter to restart to reinstall the driver.
    3. See the troubleshooting steps here: https://support.microsoft.com/de-de/help/402786...
    4. Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad to go over the Settings. Then choose Additional Settings which opens the Mouse properties box. The Touchpad software installs a tab onto it - usually the last one - that should have more settings to check, including a checkbox to Disable Touchpad when USB pointing device is attached. This prevents palm drag from causing the cursor to jump
    5. If this was caused by Windows Update(s) then you can check which were installed at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Update History, then uninstall them from the link there, and immediately check for these again and hide with the Hide Updates tool explained here:

    https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=&...

You can also go into Repair Mode by whichever method works here: https://www.translatetheweb.com/?ref=TVert&... to use the new Uninstall Updates button in Advanced Troubleshoot Options.

You can also use System Restore from within Windows or the above Repair Mode to get back before the problem began, then check for Updates with the Hide Update tool and hide them:

    https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=&...

    1. If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool, open tool and choose to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, and is also the most stable method to advance to the latest version. http://windows.microsoft.com/de-de/windows-10/m...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

    Hi ,

Even I'm facing the same issue. Can you check by playing a video anywhere in your system or in a browser when the touchpad stops working..is the video play-pausing rapidly?

If yes then a number of people is facing this issue and Microsoft must fix it!!

"I was wondering when there is already a Synaptics SMBus Driver in Mics and pointing devices why is there another driver with the same name in System Devices section , After disableing that driver my pointer is working fine , here are a few screenshots of that driver."

    Thank You!

I purchased a new Thinkpad T15, fully loaded, back in September of 2020. From day 1, the Synaptics pointer was problematic. As described, it would randomly stop working, or behave in a non controllable manner. Lenovo wanted me to return the laptop for repair, but it was obvious to me that this was a driver issue. I have tried EVERYTHING over the months and firmware updates were always a hope of a fix. I found a way to operate the Synaptics pointer without a driver that rid of the problems, but it was difficult to control. Uninstalling/installing, driver rollbacks, driver updates, generic drivers and everything else didn't work, until I found this conversation.

I have uninstalled the Synapatics SMBus Driver and all works as should now!

This is a problem that has plagued thousands of users (online search) and this fix needs to get out there as a solution.

Thank you Uday Kiran Padhy for going to the trouble of posting screen shots and sharing your fix.

That is strange.  I've never heard of a Touchpad device which is also an SM Bus Device - which is an element of the chipset and therefore likely lodged in the System devices where chipset components like SM Bus go.

That was a good guess to disable that.  We don't often disable any chipset elements.  But it's clear it's not the main SM Bus driver so it likely landed there in error, something that's quite strange why they would name their touchpad that way.
