My Logitech C170 webcam does not work on my Windows 10 pro laptop.

Hi all,

I am trying to configure a Logitech C170 webcam on my Windows 10 pro, 20H2, OS version 19042.868. Windows is up to date.

Windows does not automatically configure the webcam. In device manager the C170 webcam appears under "Other devices", not under "Video devices".

If in device manager I reinstall the driver I get the following error:

"Windows encountered a problem installing the device drivers".

"USB video device"

"The installation class is not present or invalid." <<<

I have also tried installing the drivers recommended by Logitech at the following address without success.

https://logitechdriversupport.com/amp/logitech-webcam-c170-software/

The camera is connected directly to a USB port on the laptop, not to a hub.

The camera is working fine because I have tested it on another PC with Windows 10 and it works fine.

Does anyone know what could be the problem?

Thanks for your help!

Joan

    Good Day Joan_506,

My name is Carlo, I'm an Independent Advisor and community member like you.

I am also using Windows 10 pc. Let us work together to sort this out.

Here's the steps you can try.

    -Press Windows key + X

    -Go to Device Manager

    -Expand the Universal Bus Controller

-Look for USB 3.0 Extensible Host Controller

    -Right click and Uninstall.

After restart the driver will be automatically installed.

Once done download the firmware update of your webcam from the manufacturers website using the link below.

    https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/3600...

Once downloaded and installed restart your computer and check the webcam.

I hope the information above helps. Please let me know how it goes.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    Sincerely,

    Carlo T.

    Good morning Carlo,

I Followed the steps you indicated and the logitech C170 webcam is still not working.

    • Deleted USB 3.0 Extensible Host Controller.
    • Restarted the laptop.
    • After that both the C170 and the HP integrated camera (HP HD) showed up under other devices and neither was working.
    • Installed the following drivers for the C170 recommended by Logitech:

    https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360024843533--Downloads-Webcam-C170

    Downloads - Webcam C170

Software Version: Windows: Version: 2.12.8, Mac: Version: 3.0.23

    Last Update: 2020-10-26

    OS: Windows 7,Windows 8,Windows 10

File Size: Windows = 76.5 MB, Mac = 36.4 MB

After that the Logitech C170 webcam is still listed under "Other devices" and not working.

I had to reinstall the HP HD drivers to get it working again.

Anyway, thank  you very much for your help!
