I have windows 10 installed and my PC is clear of dust. It also started running slow after I updated windows ten, then when I uninstalled the update it was still running slow. My CPU runs super high and my C drive runs at 100% when running nothing but task manager.

    Hello, how are you?

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community!

    My name is Paloma B., I'm an independent advisor, I'm here to help you in the best possible way.

    Analyzing the information presented, I recommend that you follow the guidelines below, please, to try to solve this problem.

    First, I recommend that you check and run any pending updates on WIndows Update, please:

    Press the Windows key > Settings > Update and Security, after that click on the button Check for updates, in case, please make all updates.

    Update even the options.

    As additional procedures, I recommend that you please follow the guidelines below:

    Method 1

    For clean boot follow the steps below:

    1. On the Desktop, simultaneously press the Windows + R keys to open Run;
    2. In Run, type MSCONFIG and click OK to open the System Configuration;
    3. On the Services tab, check the option Hide all Microsoft services and click Disable All;
    4. Click Apply and OK;
    5. Restart the computer.

    NOTE: This procedure disables all third-party services and programs. You can later, if the problem is solved in this way, selectively enable the programs and services that will start with Windows, instead of keeping all disabled. If the problem returns after activating the startup of a specific service or program, the problem is exactly in the startup of this software and it is recommended to remove it.

    Method 2

    Clean up temporary system files:

    1. On the Desktop, simultaneously press the Windows + R hot keys to open Run.
    2. Now type TEMP and click OK.
    3. The TEMP folder will open, please permanently delete all files inside the folder, if some files are not deleted it will be normal as they may be in use.
    4. Again press the Windows + R hot keys simultaneously to open Run.
    5. Type %TEMP% and click OK.
    6. The %TEMP% folder will open, please permanently delete all files inside the folder, if some files are not deleted it will be normal as they may be in use.
    7. Again press the Windows + R hot keys simultaneously to open Run.
    8. Type Prefetch and click OK.
    9. The Prefetch folder will open, please permanently delete all files inside the folder, if some files are not deleted it will be normal as they may be in use.

    Method 3

    1. Press Windows + R and type Regedit and press OK;
    2. Now find the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Ndu;
    3. In the Ndu folder, find the file/key named "Start", double-click on it and change the "Value Data" field to 4;
    4. Restart the system.

    Check for performance improvement.

    Method 4

    1. Press the Windows + R keys simultaneously to open Run;
    2. In Run, type "regedit" and click OK;
    3. Locate the FileChangeClientConfigs folder by the path below:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Search\FileChangeClientConfigs

    1. Rename the folder

    FileChangeClientConfigs

    for

    FileChangeClientConfigs.old

    1. Restart the system

    Method 5

    Increase virtual memory.

    The steps below will help you to have more space for the memory dump.

    1. Press the Windows + Q keys, type "Advanced System Settings" and click on the option that will appear above, related to the Control Panel;
    2. A new window will open. Click the Advanced tab, and under Performance, click Settings;
    3. In the new window click on the Advanced tab. In the Virtual Memory area, click Change;
    4. Now, uncheck the Automatically manage paging file size of all units box;
    5. Check the unit that contains the so-called paging file, click the Custom size button.

    Once this is done, you are able to point out the initial size and the maximum size of the virtual memory usage. It is recommended that you check, as a minimum, a space equal to the size of your RAM memory installed on your computer. That is, if you have 4 GB of RAM, also point to the same 4 GB of virtual memory.

    Method 6

    1. Press Windows + R, the Run window will open;
    2. Type in the blank field

    services.msc

    and press Enter;

    1. Locate the "SysMain" service and start it. To do this, double-click on it;
    2. In this new window, check the items below.

    Startup Type: must be set to "Automatic". If not, change it to "Disabled".

    Service Status: must be "Running". If not, click "Start".

    1. Click OK;
    2. Restart the system.

    Method 7

    Create a new user account and check the behavior.

    1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the "Run" window;
    2. Copy and paste the command

    control userpasswords2

    and press ok;

    1. Click on the "Add" option;
    2. Select the option "Do not connect to a Microsoft account";
    3. Choose a name and password for this profile and then proceed;
    4. After the new profile is created, go back to the "User Accounts" screen, click on your user and then on "Properties". Select the "Group Membership" tab;
    5. Mark the profile as Administrator and click on Ok;
    6. Log in with the new account;

    Once the problem is resolved, copy and paste the files from the old account to the new account:

    1. Press the "Windows flag" + E key to open File Explorer;
    2. In File Explorer, select "This Computer" in the left column;
    3. In "This Computer", select "WIndows (C :)";
    4. Among the folders presented, select the "Users" folder;
    5. Accessing the "Users" folder, select and access the folder with the name of your old account;
    6. Open the folders inside the folder with the name of your old account, and copy the files to your new account.

    Important: You must OPEN FOLDERS in your old account and COPY THE FILES to the new account, there is no use trying to copy the folders.

    After migrating your data, delete your previous user:

    1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run window, type

    netplwiz

    and click OK;

    1. Select your previous user and click Remove.

    Method 8

    If the problem is not solved, I recommend that you perform, please, restore the system following the guidelines below:

    1. Press Windows + I to open the Settings window;
    2. Select Update and Security;
    3. Select Recovery;
    4. Under "PC Restore" click "Start now".
    5. Select between "Keep my files" or "Remove all".

    I await news.

    If these procedures helped you in any way, please click on "I solved my problem" and also mark as an answer, so you can help others users.

    We will always be available for whatever you need!
