Sound quality drop when microphone is activated

Hi team,

I'm facing an issue with a bluetooth headset Jabra Evolve2 85. This device is correctly paired with windows thanks to a bluetooth dongle. Both microphona and headset are recognized. When i'm playing sound with any app (a web browser, an offline music player, a music streaming service, a videogame) the sound is great. As soon as the microphone is activated (within an app e.g. discord/teams/zoom and even within the windows settings) the sound quality severely drops out... I'm going from forum to forum without a single hint. Also it's not a matter of "power" meaning the audio mixer shows unchanged levels when switching from active to unactive microphone state.

I hope this is clear enough and thank you for reading this :)

This is how Bluetooth Wireless headset is supposed to work.

The Bluetooth standard has 2 audio codec --- a high bitrate audio codec for music and a low bitrate audio codec for telephone calls. In order to use the microphone, you have to use the low bitrate audio codec.

All the wireless gaming headsets use 2.4 GHz USB dongles --- they don't use Bluetooth.

    Hi Louie

Thank you for your detailed answer.

I've tested the troubleshouter issue mentioned in your previous mail :

    • disable all audio enhancements is the only action offered to me and it doesn't solve the issue unfortunately.

I also chechked the proposals of the other links and its unsucessful as most of it concerns issues with audio (like not working audio), I don't know if you managed to go though my message in detail (I imagine that you process tons of messages like this per day...) but the sound quality drop ONLY occurs whenever the microphone gets triggered by windows...
I tested this headset with aphone andI don't have any issue with it.

Any other help would be really appreciated from what I've heard it could be from the fact that something automatically switches the sound to a "hand free mode" but I cant locate this on windows settings...
    Thanks

    Hi o_oBlackOut-_-

I'm Louie, an Independent Advisor and a fellow Windows 10 user like you. Hope you're doing well and safe there.

I recommend running the troubleshooter with the headphones connected. This tool is designed to check for any misconfiguration on your drivers and repair them for you.

In the search box on the taskbar,

    • Type audio troubleshooter, select Fix and find problems with playing sound from the results, then select Next.
    • Select the device you want to troubleshoot and then continue through the troubleshooter.

You can also launch the troubleshooter from audio Settings.

Select Start > Settings > System > Sound > Troubleshoot.

Should the issue continue, you can refer to this support article for further troubleshooting. The link has steps on how to troubleshoot sound issues in Windows 10.

I'm sorry if the steps didn't work. It seems that the issue is complex than what I expected.

It may be best if I release your question to other advisors so they can take a look at it and let them share some other ways that can fix the issue.

You take care and keep safe always.

    Sincerely,

    Louie
