Hi, I'm Benedict, an Independent Advisor. I'm here to help you.
What is the device you are using? Laptop or Desktop computer? And what is the make and model of your device?
Below are some possible methods you can try:
1 - Check if Shift key will work using On-screen keyboard:
- Open Start Menu
- Type osk and click On-screen Keyboard
- Check if Shift key will work using On-screen Keyboard
- If it still works, then the Shift key in your keyboard hardware might be faulty.
2 - Run the Keyboard Troubleshooter in Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot, or to locate this:
- Open Start Menu.
- Type and search for "Troubleshoot settings". Open it.
- In the right pane, if you can't see the said troubleshooter or no recommended troubleshooter is listed, click on Additional troubleshooters.
- Now, look for the said troubleshooter and click it.
- Click on "Run the troubleshooter"
3 - Check if Sticky Keys is turned on in Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard > Use Sticky Keys > Turn it off if turned on.
4 - Perform a System Restore, to revert your system settings back to a point prior to system updates or changes that have caused the said issue: https://support.microsoft.com/windows/use-syste...
5 - Roll back, update or reinstall your keyboard driver by following the steps below:
To roll back the said driver (restore the previous installed driver):
- Open Start Menu.
- Type Device Manager and Open it.
- Double-Click on the category "Keyboards".
- Under this category, right-click on the driver and select "Properties".
- Click the "Driver" tab and look for "Roll Back Driver" button* below and click it.
- Next select a reason why you're rolling back and click Yes.
- Restart your computer.
*If the option to roll back driver is grayed-out, the reasons are the following:
- Your computer hasn't had a previous driver installed for the said device.
- Your computer did not retain the driver files from the original version installed.
If that doesn't work, kindly try updating the said driver:
- Locate again the said driver
- Right click on it and select "Update Driver".
- Next select "Search Automatically..."
- Restart your computer.
If that doesn't still work, please try uninstalling the said driver:
- Locate again the said driver
- Right click on it and select "Uninstall device".
- Restart your computer. It will automatically search and install the driver.
Hope that helps. Please let me know how it goes.
Regards,
Benedict P.
