    Hi SkyK-F

If you want to break the file associations on those files, and set them back to nothing, there is no way to do that with Windows, here is a trick that will do that for you, basically, you create a dummy exe file, then associate those file types to that dummy exe, then delete the dummy exe and restart (not shut down) your PC, that will break those associations . .

    1

    Open Windows File Explorer

On the view Ribbon (tab) check the box marked 'File Name Extensions'

    Close File Explorer

    2

Right click your Desktop and choose New - Text File

Right click that text file and choose rename, then change the file extension on that new file from .txt to .exe

    Confirm the change

    3

For each of those file types, right click and choose Open With

Then navigate the menus to associate that file type to the dummy exe

    4

Delete the dummy exe file on your Desktop and restart your PC

The file associations will then be broken!

    Hi SkyK-F

This is very strange, what happened on your PC when all these file types got set to Editor an what Editor are you referring to?

If that is a programming IDE, I can understand the C++ files being set, but not MP4, you should be able to reset MP4 from the Settings App, what was the C++ files set to before Editor?

    Hi SkyK-F

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this . . .

Click the link below to download a reg file

    https://www.tenforums.com/attachments/tutorials...

Right click that reg file and select 'Merge, then confirm the merge

After you restart your PC, that will fix the file associations on txt files

However, you mention you cannot add a .py file extension to a file, are you sure you do not have File Extensions hidden, that would be the only explanation I can think of for that

Open File Explorer, on the View Ribbon, is 'File Name Extensions' turned on?
