Windows 8.1 English ISO File

Hello,

I have spent all day downloading a Windows 8.1 ISO file as I recently uninstalled everything on my laptop so when it started up again, the laptop just had Windows 8. I went to the following link to try and download Windows 8.1: "https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows8ISO."

After it finally downloaded (i have poor internet connection) I have Win 8.1 English saved in my downloads. Now i don't want create an image I just want to install it but it says the set is corrupt! How on earth can this be when I've downloaded it from Microsoft? The following is from the Microsoft page: "You can also install Windows on your current device by opening the ISO file, selecting the Setup and following the instructions." I have tried right clicking and assumed there would be the function to run the program but there is nothing like that. I am not a computer geek but thought downloading this from the official Microsoft website would allow me to do this. I'm very disappointed and maybe I should have tried downloading it from a non-official website instead!  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise I'll just uninstall it and wait for my laptop to prompt me for a Windows 8.1 update like it previously did. Thanking in advance anyone that can help.

I always believe in clean installing 8.1 over 8, but this is the way Microsoft recommends:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/update-to-windows-8-1-from-windows-8-17fc54a7-a465-6b5a-c1a0-34140afd0669

    Get the free update

The Store is no longer open for Windows 8, so you'll need to download Windows 8.1 as a free update.

    1. Go to the Windows 8.1 download page and select your Windows edition.
    2. Select Confirm and follow the remaining prompts to begin the download.
    3. The update will download and install in the background while you use your PC to do other things. The installer will check to make sure you have enough disk space, that your apps and devices will work with Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1, and that you have all the required updates.

In some cases, the installer might find something you need to take care of before you can continue installing the update. If so, you'll see a message telling you what you need to do.

    Restart

After the update is downloaded and the first phase of the installation is complete (which could take between 15 minutes and a few hours, depending on your system and your connection speed), you'll see a message telling you that your PC needs to restart. It will give you 15 minutes to finish what you’re working on, save your work, and close your apps, and then it will restart your PC for you. Or you can restart it yourself.

    Hello Bill,

Many thanks for your reply. However, the link you provided for Windows 8.1 is the one I used. After it downloaded there was no message about restarting. However, after it downloaded to my laptop under my own Downloads, the following is displayed: Win8.1-English-x64. I right clicked this expecting it to say run but it does not. I had to select an app to open and was offered Cyberlink to open. However, the options displayed again after were Open with ISO viewer; Mount as a virtual drive, View disc image. I don't see which option I need to pick to actually install it on to my laptop which is what I want to do as I'm not interested in saving it to a disc. When I selected Mount as virtual drive, it was saved to my CD Drive E. There is an option to select autorun or setup but I just get error messages. Because I currently have poor internet connection this took all day to download and now it appears it won't install. I don't know if there is any more advice you can give. Otherwise I shall see if there is any other website where I can download Windows 8.1  or I'll just wait for my updates offer me the chance to upgrade. Thank you.
