Hi,

When I got to Windows DefenderFireWall

< Advanced Setting< Inbound Rules: I see WFD Driver Only (TCP-In) and (UDP-IN) enabled and allowed ( green checkmark), Can I disable it for security ? I don’t know what exactly is this and if its necessary or not?

1- Can I disable it ?

2- Will i affect my PC in a negative way if I do?

3- In a simple way, can someone explain what this is and if it is required?

I want to limit list of allowed apps for more security

Thanks

The technology allows for example that two computers (or a PC and a smartphone) exchange files through a direct wifi connection, without the use of a wifi router, another example of using the technology is Miracast that allows you to transmit the screen from the PC to a supported TV. Both rules are disabled on my firewall since I use a wired network and I don't use wifi communication with any other device. About the printer, I cannot be sure if the feature used is wifi direct, I would have to look at the specifications of your printer or you can test disable the rule and check if the printer stops working.

Anyway, it is a rule created by Windows itself and does not cause any damage to your system if it is activated.

Hello, my name is Anderson Souza, I am an Independent Advisor and I hope I can help you with your problem today.

    About WFD

    [...]

Specifies the Wi-Fi Direct (WFD) Protocol: Proximity Extensions, which enable two or more devices that are running the same application to establish a direct connection without requiring an intermediary, such as an infrastructure wireless access point (WAP).

If you don't use the Wifi Direct feature you may find it convenient to disable the rule at the firewall.

    Thank you.

Can you provide some examples of Wifi Direct feature devices ?Does it mean 2 devices who get connected through wifi and without a cord? Please clarify.

Also for my printer, I print from my PC without any cord, nor any USB and i gues through wifi. So is that part of Wifi direct ?

    Thanks
