upgrade from 20H2 Build 19042.630 to 21H1

Many cumulative update packages have failed to fail to install on my system with the error code 0x800f081f since the October 2020 release of v20H2. None of the published 'fixes' for this brought any success.

With the May release of v21H1, I decided to use the Windows Update Assistant to upgrade to the latest release.

The upgrade proceeded but did not allow an upgrade keeping setting/apps etc ...

The same result occurs after downloading the ISO and attempting an in-place upgrade.

The specs on v21H1 released by Microsoft state that update KB5003173 must be installed on the system before the system can be upgraded from 20H2

But KB5003173 consistently fails to install either through Windows Update or as a standalone package from the microsoft catalog

What is this boloney ?

    Hi Keith,

    A couple of questions:

    1. Have you redirected your program files to a different directory?
    2. Type winver in the search and press enter. What is the Build and version number reported in the window?

I wonder you are hitting this

Hi, I'm Robinson, an Independent Advisor and a Windows user like you.

The update KB4586853 fixes the problem with the in-place upgrades while keeping existing user files and apps. You can download this update at this link.

Run the SetupDiag to check where is the problem with the update.

    1-Download SetupDiag.

    https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=870142

2-If your web browser asks what to do with the file, choose Save. By default, the file will be saved to your Downloads folder. You can also save it to a different location if desired by using Save As.

3-When SetupDiag has finished downloading, open the folder where you downloaded the file. By default, this is your Downloads folder, which is displayed in File Explorer under Quick access in the left navigation pane.

4-Double-click the SetupDiag file to run it. Click Yes if you are asked to approve running the program.

5-A command window will open while SetupDiag diagnoses your computer. Wait for this to finish.

6-When SetupDiag finishes, two files will be created in the same folder where you double-clicked SetupDiag. One is a configuration file, the other is a log file.

    7-Attach the file SetupDiagResults.log.

    Thanks for your reply.

However all that happens is this
    Image

The same result happens with three systems.

I have four systems, one has upgraded successfully, three continually fail.

All four systems are pretty much identical, just used for different purposes.

How, as in my first post and image, can I be trying to upgrade to an older version of Windows when I am attempting to upgrade from an older to a newer version?
