Automatic Update without permission

Why did my laptop just initiate a looooong update without my permission?

I’m in the middle of completing an assignment. I have limited time because I’m a parent and I work as well as study. I finally have a short amount of time to myself and my computer goes into updates with out asking me first when I had multiple documents open and webpages for research. I’m praying they all come back when it starts up again!!

Why didn’t it ask me first?

This is flawed. Thankfully I was able to recover the assignment I was working on, however it didn’t present it to me on restart, I had to find it in the rectory files. I also lost a hour of study time. Not very impressed that my computer can just force restart             like that regardless of what’s actually in progress.

It has always asked me in the past and I usually ask it to remind me later. This time I didn’t get any warning. I turned off my notification centre today because I desperately needed to get this completed and always get distracted by emails and pop ups. Is this why it launched it, without warning?

I understand that you are disappointed. Microsoft is open to feedback and you might want to raise your concerns to their engineers. You can do that by submitting your feedback on the hub. Follow the steps on this link: https://support.microsoft.com/article/f59187f8-...

I believe so. It has limit on when you can delay the update and after it will launch automatically.

Hi, I'm Bianca, an Independent Advisor.

Sorry to hear that your Windows just initiated the update without your permission. This actually differs on how you set up your Windows update. You should have an option to automatically set it or manually do it. For more information, check this link: https://support.microsoft.com/article/643e9ea7-...

I hope this helps. If not, let me know if this does not work or if you've tried this already. I might have another possible solution to try after this one.
