Windows 10 - R9 390 - Ran 60hz @ 4k with displayport (generic pnp w/ TV) fine until....? PLEASE HELP!

Hello all,

I've been using my Samsung TV as a monitor for quite some time.  My gfx card is an R9 390 which can output 4k@60hz using the displayport.  Recently I restarted my computer (there may have been an update) and upon reboot I noticed the framerate looked choppy and felt laggy.  Back to 30hz.  There's no longer an option to select 60hz from my card.  It's completely gone.  I've tried removing the generic pnp driver and reinstalling, I've tried using different resolutions and "tricking" the PC into remembering, I've uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers for the gfx card, etc.  I spent, no joke, around eight hours yesterday reinstalling, uninstalling, etc.  I'm completely stumped.  I even tried downloading the newest AMD software and setting a custom resolution.  Once it "let" me make the settings change, but it did nothing to the display.  I just tried again and now I get a compatibility message saying the monitor isn't capable.  Again, I want to stress (since I've read a lot of posts across the internet/time regarding this card/4k) that I have the necessary equipment and that up until yesterday it was running 4k @ 60hz with no issue.  Can anyone please assist? Thank you so much

    Hello again,

Since I didn't hear from you I went ahead and completely reinstalled windows.  There is STILL no resolution.  My PC is still only outputting in 30hz.  So now I can't even revert back to a previous version.  What do I do next?

    Thanks.

    Hello,

So yes and no, this worked. My resolution is now fixed after reverting to the previous version of windows. But now, I'm getting a couple errors:

VCRUNTIME140_1.dll error, as well as vc_runtimeMinimum_x64.msi. What can I do to fix these? My Firefox no longer runs and I'm sure I'll start finding other programs that won't properly function. Also, what do I do now, never update my windows for fear that the resolution will not work?

    Thank you.

    Thank you for the informations,

To remove the doubt that it may have been a system update that caused the problem, let's do it like this:

Windows+i, Update and Security, Recovery, Return Windows 10 to a previous version. You can do this up to 10 days after the update.

If it is not possible in this way, do it like this, Windows+R, type: appwiz.cpl, press enter, on the left side, click on Show installed updates, select the last system update and Uninstall.

    I hope it solves.

    Graciously,

    Claudeir

    Hi Claudeir,

I appreciate your response. First, there are no new cords of any kind. Second, I actually went through each step you outlined before writing my initial plea for help. Just to be certain though, I went through each step you listed once more and there is still no option to have 60hz with the 4k display. What's next?

    Thank you.

Hi, my name is Claudeir, user and independent consultant, welcome to the community! It will be a pleasure to help!

-I understand you, and I know how frustrating it can be when something doesn't work the way it should:

Are you sure nothing has changed? no power cord no adapter?

Go to Windows+i, System, Video, scroll down and click on Advanced Screen Settings, scroll down and see the refresh rate, you can't change it to 60hz?

If it is not possible to change, download the AMD software to update the video drivers.

If you've already done that and it didn't solve the problem, try rolling back the current driver, Windows+X, Device Manager, Display adapters, right click on the graphics driver, Properties, Driver, Roll back driver.

If it is not possible to revert the driver, right click on it and Uninstall, restart the PC and new drivers will be installed.

If the answer helped in any way, please consider leaving your opinion, marking it as answered or leaving more details so that we can continue the service, this is very important to us.

    Sincerely,

    Claudeir
