Accents on French Canadian Keyboard

Hello! I've started using the French Canadian keyboard setup on my standard keyboard because I'm writing in French more and more. My only problem is that everyone says that the ' button (second from the right on the caps row) should let me then press any letter and get an accent over the letter I press. Same theory for the / button (second from the right on the shift key row).

However, when I press either of those buttons, it doesn't let me then hit a letter - it just defaults to é and è. This didn't matter much - until I tried to type où.

I found this forum post: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-desktop-winpc/accent-grave-on-french-canadian-keyboard/1b00634e-e4f8-45cc-bd09-fc2d5c618769 that seems to be about the same problem, but with no conclusive answer. The final commenter says they think that standard western keyboards are missing a key on the Z row where the Microsoft Canadian french keyboard is putting the ù.

Thanks to that commenter's advice, I was able to make a macro using ALT + 151 and assign it to my right-side shift, which I don't use anyway. However, since that post is from a few years ago, I wondered if anyone had come up with a better solution or found a way to get the ù on the Canadian French keyboard?

Hello, my name is Marco and I am an Independent Advisor. I will do my best to help you.

I have a French Canadian keyboard, and I press once on the '(the first next to the ENTER key) and then on the U, which makes ù or è or à or ò etc.

(But there are different keyboard designs, It can be the 2nd key. )

    See the photo below.

If that doesn't work you have to set your keyboard layout to 'French (Canada)' everywhere.

In Windows settings > Time & Language > and set " Preferred language to " French ( Canada ) , then click on the language and select " option ".

Scroll down under " Keyboard " and choose " Canadian French " ... not " Canadian French legacy " .

And finally, make sure that in the task bar the FR Canadian language is selected.
