Desktop Window Manager Stopped Working, Resulting in black screen crash

Windows has been consistently crashing while playing Hunt Showdown. Every time this occurs Reliability Monitor has shown "Desktop Window Manager Stopped Working"

Today I reset windows (downloaded from the cloud) including removing all personal files. This was suggested by Microsoft support however it didn't resolve the issue.

Among other solutions were attempting to use the Media Creation Tool.

Running sfc /scannow which resulted in
"Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19042.867] (c) 2020 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan. Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

Microsoft support has been zero help so far and I want this resolved

Here is my latest Reliability History. It has only happened once since I reset the computer this morning.

I'm not sure why the warning for system updates has happened as windows was just installed

here is the current build for my pc https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BYc3QD

I have also seen that going to Services.msc and restarting "Desktop Window Manager" could fix the solution however Desktop Window Manager is not in present in the list of services.

I'm not sure how to proceed with fixing this. Any help is appreciated.

I wasn't able to play for a long time. The last week I have and the issue didn't occur until just now.

Before this I had updated the AMD chipset drivers and it was starting to seem like that fixed it however it has not.

There is an update for the nividia driver. I'm going to try that and if that doesn't work I will try removing the display driver and reinstalling it.

I'm out of options after this.

    Display driver should be Nivida.

The chipset may also be Nividia. Update all of them.

The Display driver is so important here that merely updating it is sometimes not enough. So let's try everything possible to get it working correctly:

First make sure you have updated the Display driver from the PC or Display adapter maker's Support Downloads web page for your exact model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag - from the sticker on the PC.

If necessary first remove the old driver using DDU https://www.wagnardsoft.com/content/ddu-guide-t... (not necessary with Microsoft Basic driver which is a placeholder if nothing else is available) and/or install in Safe Mode with Networking (so you have internet), or Safe Mode, accessed by one of these methods: https://www.digitalcitizen.life/4-ways-boot-saf...

While there check also for newer chipset, BIOS/UEFI firmware (very important), network, sound, USB3 and other drivers, comparing to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

If this doesn't give you the latest or ideal driver for what you need, compare it to the driver offered by the Intel driver update Utility here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/...

or the Nvidia Update utility here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=e...

or the AMD autodect utility here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/P...

For Display issues one fix that is working is to Roll back or Uninstall the Driver on the Display Device > Driver tab, restart PC to reinstall driver.

You can also try older drivers in Device Manager > Display device > Driver tab > Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

Then you will know you've tried everything in addition to Windows Update drivers.

Adjust the screen resolution until it fits and looks best at Settings > System > Display.

I'm not completely sure what I'm looking for in device manager. Once I'm there I go to System Devices and there are a ton of things under it. Is there any ones I should be specifically checking?

I did however download the AMD utility you posted in your original response and it download something automatically, I'm guessing the latest drivers for the chipset?

    https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X570-AORUS-ELITE-rev-10/support#support-dl-driver

this is the page for my exact motherboard, I'm guessing all of the AMD things under the drivers where automatically handled by the AMD utility?

Should I give it some time to see if this has solved it and if not try to flash the BIOs or should I check my BIOs and update that as well (Not completely sure how to do that).

I greatly appreciate your help as these are things I would not have been able to figure out to try my self. Thank you.

EDIT: Also forgot to mention that I check GeForce Experience and am using the latest GeForce driver

The issue is with Nvidia Display adapter.

Did you update to the latest drivers from the PC or motherboard maker's Support Downloads webpage for your exact model. While there check for the latest Chipset, BIOS, Sound, Network, USB3, Bluetooth and all other drivers to compare with the version/date installled for that device in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

Then compare the display adapter installed in Device Manager with the one found by Nvidia auto-updater here:

Troy, I don't have Desktop Windows Manager in Services.msc either.

Continue with the steps I gave including in the illustrated tutorials and it should get fixed.
