Can't install updates I need to install in order to install Eset NOD32

Split from this thread.

I'm trying to download all these updates so that I can download Eset's NOD32 antivirus on a windows 7, 32 bit machine but I can't.

I went to eset's forum and they told me to install sp1 and several updates and I tried the updates first ncluding the kb12 listed in here but I keep getting messages saying that this update is not for my computer or something.

Also, I downloaded sp1 but it's asking what software I need to open it.

Any ideas?

Thanks

George

    What are "all these updates"?

What is "the kb12 listed in here"? Are you referring to KB3138612?

What is the address from which you downloaded sp1?

What is the complete file name that you downloaded as sp1?

Please report the complete text of error messages rather than attempting to paraphrase them.

I suspect you attempted to get Service Pack 1 from the Microsoft Update Catalog and downloaded the wrong file.

To get SP1 for a 32 bit Windows 7 system:

    1. Go here: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=kb976932
    2. Click on the "Download" button for the line that says only "Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)." This

is the smallest of the 3 options.

    1. Click on the link for "windows6.1-kb976932-x86_c3516bc5c9e69fee6d9ac4f981f5b95977a8a2fa.exe"

...and abnormal users like me, don't know what to use :)

It works now and NOD32 is installed but strangely enough, it seems like the computer is a good bit slower.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty observant and I don't think I am.

Not going to try to do anything about it 'cause again, I'm a bit of a **** and have a huge problem with reading comprehension but if you can think of something obvious and simple, I'll give it a shot.

Puter doesn't have to be picked up till Monday so I have a little time left.

    :)

    You're welcome.

The *.msu file is meant for administrators who use the Windows Update Standalone Installer (Wusa.exe)

    program (details here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/description-of-the-windows-update-standalone-installer-in-windows-799ba3df-ec7e-b05e-ee13-1cdae8f23b19)

"Regular" users, like most of us, use the *.exe files.
