the computer i'm using has multiple accounts, and mine isn't the administrator. when I try to log in, it says preparing windows. then it puts me into a temporary account. I have tried to restart multiple times, and on safe mode. I followed a guide the last step apparently requires a different version. could you help get the account back up?

    Hello Marcus, how are you?

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community!

    My name is Paloma B., I'm an independent advisor, I'm here to help you in the best possible way.

    I understand that your Windows has logged into a temporary account instead of your real account.

    This can happen due to a user error, check by accessing the folder C:\Users\ if you have any folder named TEMP.

    If so, you will need to perform the following procedure.

    1. Open the “Windows Registry Editor”. To do this, press the shortcut keys “WinKey + R” and enter the command “regedit” (without the quotes);
    2. Step 3. In the left column, navigate to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList.” and expand the “ProfileList” key;
    3. In the ProfileList key you will find several entries, corresponding to the various profiles present in the system. Look for the “S-1-5” key (SID key) followed by a long number and on the right, analyze the name contained in “ProfileImagePath”;
    4. Your profile will be easy to find, as you will see two identical keys, one of which ends in “.bak”.

    You will find two keys with the same number, for example:

    S-1-5-21-1590167473-4267824186-2435678551-1008 (Excludes this)

    S-1-5-21-1590167473-4267824186-2435678551-1008.bak (rename this key by removing .bak)

    1. Make the following change:

    Delete the key: S-1-5-21-1590167473-4267824186-2435678551-1008 (check that the “ProfileImagePath” field contains the word “Temp”).

    1. Now with the right mouse button choose “Rename” in the second key and remove the “.bak”. You are ready, the next time you start Windows 10, the problem will be solved.
    2. Restart the computer.

    I await news.

    Thanks for the information Marcus, I'm sorry about that.

    Unfortunately if that way doesn't work, we will need to recreate the user and copy the data to the new user as below.

    Create a new user account and check the behavior.

    1. Press Windows + R keys to open the "Run" window;
    2. Copy and paste the command

    control userpasswords2

    and press ok;

    1. Click on the "Add" option;
    2. Select the option "Do not sign in to a Microsoft account";
    3. Choose a name and password for this profile and then proceed;
    4. After the new profile is created, go back to the "User Accounts" screen, click on your user and then on "Properties". Select the "Group Membership" tab;
    5. Mark the profile as Administrator and click on Ok;
    6. Login with the new account;

    Once the problem is resolved, copy and paste the files from the old account to the new account:

    1. Press "Windows flag" key + E to open File Explorer;
    2. In File Explorer, select "This Computer" in the left column;
    3. Under "This Computer", select "WIndows (C:)";
    4. Among the presented folders, select the "Users" folder;
    5. Accessing the "Users" folder, select and access the folder with the name of your old account;
    6. Open the folders inside the folder with the name of your old account, and copy the files to your new account.

    Important: You must OPEN THE FOLDERS in your old account and COPY THE FILES to the new account, it's no use trying to copy the folders.

    After migrating your data, delete your previous user:

    1. Press Windows+R keys to open the Run window, type

    netplwiz

    and click OK;

    1. Select your previous user and click Remove.

    I await news.

    Thanks for the info Marcus.

    In this case, Windows is not allowing changes by the TEMP user.

    Do you have any other users on the computer?

    If so, try to log off and enter it and perform the procedure.

    If not, try to create according to the procedure below and enter it to perform the procedure.

    1. Press Windows + R keys to open the "Run" window;
    2. Copy and paste the command

    and press ok;

    2. Select the option "Do not sign in to a Microsoft account";
