Hi LB3815,
Honestly, they are all about the same, I would not recommend one over the other, and on this forum we could only recommend freeware, you could try the free version of EaseUS, it is fairy good.

I used winfr to recover deleted files. It found a lot of files, docx, pptx, mp4, etc. and "recovered" them, but when I try opening a file, I get a message that says for example: "PowerPoint can't open this file because its file extension has changed. Make sure the format of the file matches the file extension". It matches but cannot open the file. This is the situation with all file types. What is the problem and how can I resolve it? Thank you.

Hi LB3815,
I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this.
File Recovery is very hit and miss and it seems the files you have recovered are corrupt, this is very common, did you recover the files onto the same drive they are being recovered from, if so, you run the risk of overwriting part of the files you are recovering, you should always recover files to another drive.
The best option now is to try a 3rd party file recovery utility, to see if the files can successfully be recovered.
Hi Dave,
Thank you for your prompt response. I recovered the files to a different drive. File Explorer shows that all files have a good amount of data, and the properties show that the files are actually what they are suppose to be - word, excel, powerpoint, etc. If I have to use a 3rd party file recovery utility, which one would you recommend? Thank you
