New document creation opens in Word Online in Edge and Chrome despite Open in Client application setting configured at the library level.
This works fine on Internet explorer though. What could be the issue? Urgent as customer is due for Production soon.
This occurs because in 2016, opening in client directly requires an ActiveX control which is IE-only. Your options are to tell users to explicitly select open in client, open in client after opening in Word Online, removing the WOPI binding for docx, or removing Office Online Server WOPI binding altogether.

Is there any approach if we can have a template defined, and force the URL to open in client application, using any suffix/query parameter enforcing?

Only query parameter available would be ?web=0, which tells a link to not open it in a browser. But you can't apply this to out of the box controls.

I did try to set Template.dotx?Web=0, but server is not accepting this format.
Ours is a multi-tenant environment - so removing the WOPI binding for docx or the server is not easily feasible. If you have any other suggestions, let me know.

Were these patches ever confirmed to have fixed this issue?
My current 2016 farm runs the Feb 2021 CU with OOS integrated. Open in Client works with Microsoft Edge Chromium.
