My laptop Screen is extremely dim

Hello,

For over a month now my laptop Screen has been extremely dim.

When its plugged in, I can kind of see the screen but when its unplugged, its so dark, its impossible to see.

The brightness is max on it but when I turn my brightness down, it stays at the same brightness (The brightness bar moves up and down but visually, the brightness is the same)
I am having to use an external Monitor to use my Laptop currently.

Is there any fix for this?

    Thanks for the info buddy.

    Two other questions:

Can you tell me when this started to happen?

Is your video card up to date?

    Try to follow these steps:

    1. Press Windows + R
    2. In the search field type: Regedit
    3. Click YES and a screen will open.
    4. On this screen, copy this command: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Class \ {4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} \ 0000

In the 0000 folder in the right corner look for: "FeatureTESTcontrol"

(Tip if you don't have it in the 0000 folder, below you should have the 0001. folder. See if it's in this folder).

Notes: It is not the word "FeatureControl, but FeatureTESTEcontrol"

    1. Double click and a window will open.

In the "Value data" option you will have some numbers, delete them and put: ffff

And also make sure "Hexadecimal" is checked

after that, say "ok" and restart the Laptop.

    Hello ElectroGamesYT.

I'm Daniel, an independent Advisor. It is a pleasure to help you today. I know how frustrating it can be for you, but I will do my best to help you :)

I understand that your laptop screen is very dark.

What make and model of your laptop?

When you use an external monitor, does the screen return to normal brightness?

    Hi ElectroGamesYT_ -

Thank you for your response and I apologize for the confusion, please to rollback your Display adapters to check if the issue will be fix using your older Display adapter driver. Please follow the steps below.

    1. Open run box by pressing Windows Key + R and type devmgmt.msc then hit enter
    2. Locate and expand Display adapters
    3. Right-click on the driver and select Update driver
    4. Select Browse my computer for drivers
    5. Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer
    6. Select any older driver from the list and click next
    7. Wait for the process to complete, once completed, restart your computer and check if it resolves your issue.

If in case the issue still persist, please perform In-place Repair.

    In-Place Repair

    • In-place repair/upgrade or repair reinstall is a process of re-installing Windows without touching any of your applications or personal files. In this way if there's any data corruption, damaged system files or missing system files on your computer, this repair will fix or repair them.

To start we need to download an ISO file of Windows 10 and save it to your computer. Please follow the instruction on the link below to create an ISO file

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/402819...

After the ISO is created, follow the instructions on the link below created by PaulSey, Microsoft Agent, on how to perform repair install on your computer.

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

This process will take some time to complete so you need to be very patient in waiting until the process completes. Once done , restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved.

    Regards,

    Jerico T.

Not 100% sure exactly when this started happening but within 2 months forsure.

And I cant find the FeatureTestControl in the 0000 folder and 0001.

I am also currently installing the Radeon Software to check if my GPU is up to date.

Edit: I have updated all of my Drivers and restarted my PC. Screen is still Dim.
