Cannot change Windows Boot Manager to my new SSD

To whom it may concern,

As shown in the screenshot of my BIOS utility, my new SSD is not set as the Windows Boot Manager. As a result, I have to keep my old hard drive connected to my computer to ensure that it will boot to Windows 10.  I have created a new EFI System partition in my new SSD but it did not solve the problem. Is there a way to set my new SSD (from Samsung) as the Boot Manager without reinstalling Windows? Thanks in advance.

Yours sincerely

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand your query related to changing the Windows boot partition on your PC to the SSD. I will certainly try my best to assist you with the query.

I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and see if that helps.

Method 1:

Try performing Automatic repair on the PC.

  1. Create a bootable media and boot the PC using the media.
  2. On the Install Windows screen, select Next > Repair your computer.
  3. On the System Recovery Options screen, select TroubleshootAdvanced options > Startup Repair.
  4. Restart the PC.

Method 2:

You can also try rebuilding the BCD file manually and see if the PC boots fine.

  1. Create a bootable media and boot the PC using the media.
  2. On the Install Windows screen, select Next > Repair your computer.
  3. On the System Recovery Options screen, select TroubleshootAdvanced options > Command Prompt.
  4. Now type in the commands and hit enter: BOOTREC /FIXMBRBOOTREC /FIXBOOT
    BOOTREC /scanos
    BOOTREC /rebuildbcd
  5. Restart the PC.

Let us know how it goes.
