Card readers not working on latest version of Windows 10 Pro

Hi all,

I have two plug and play card readers - OneSpan Digipass 905 and Sitecom MD-064. I'm trying to use them to read my ID card using Windows 10 Pro. But neither of them seem to be recognized as USB devices by the OS.

I've tried stopping and re-starting up the smart card reader service in device manager, but that makes no difference.

Anyone else have any experience with getting card readers work with Windows 10 Pro?

I have tried contacting the manufacturers but their responses are not very helpful.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

    Good Day Paul,

My name is Carlo, I'm an Independent Advisor and community member like you.

I am also using Windows 10 pc. Let us work together to sort this out.

First, try to plug those readers using another computer for us to check if the issue is with your computer or those readers itself.

-If the card reader cannot be detected using other device means they are faulty, try to use other cable.

If the card reader can be detected using other computer , please proceed with the steps below.

    -Press Windows key + X

    -Go to Device Manager

    -Expand the Universal Bus Controller

-Look for USB 3.0 Extensible Host Controller and USB 3.0 Root Hub

-Right click and Uninstall them both

After restart the driver will be automatically installed.

Restart your computer and try to connect the card readers, you can also try with a different ports.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    Sincerely,

    Carlo T.

    Good morning Carlo,

    Thanks for your detailed suggestions.

I played around with different combinations of computers, card readers, usb cables and ports, and middleware software... and finally got it to work!

    How?

By using an old PC I haven't updated in a couple of years. Worked first time.

I think the drivers for the eID software I need to use are not upgraded to work with the latest version of Windows 10 Pro or the latest versions of the common browsers.

Anyway, problem solved. That's the main thing.

    Paul
