Second monitor not detected (Or both monitors detected as a single device)

I've just added a second monitor to my setup. It is the same model as my first monitor. Upon setup, the monitors were set to duplicate. I tried setting them to extend, but Windows does not detect a second monitor. I have restarted the computer, updated/uninstalled/reinstalled graphics driver, manually detected, Windows+P>extend, and nothing has worked. I find it odd that while picture displays without issue on both monitors, Windows only recognizes that one monitor is connected (Device manager only shows a single monitor).

I've also replicated this on a second computer, which is a laptop. On the laptop, I can set the display to "extend" but the external monitors are duplicated. So I effectively have three monitors (including the laptop screen) acting as two, with the identical external monitors displaying the same picture.

I don't know if this means Windows isn't detecting the second monitor, or if it's somehow treating both as a single device. I'm in over my head here, any suggestions I have yet to try would be appreciated.

Ok, if I understand correctly, you have 1 hdmi cable which is connected to the Matrix HDMI box in the IN port and 2 hdmi cable in the out on two screens ?

If this is the case, an hdmi cable cannot transmit two different displays at the same time unfortunately.

HDMI doesn't support multiple video streams on a single port, HDMI splitters will only duplicate displays.

On the other hand, you can buy a USB to HDMI converter for really cheap on Amazon. ( Like the picture below )

With this, you will be able to extend your desktop on your computer or laptop.

    Thanks for your reply:

1 - "The best drivers for your device are already installed."

2 - "You are up to date"

    3 - "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem"

I'm using a 4x2 HDMI matrix for both monitors (which I have been using since before I added the second monitor). I have not had any issues up to this point with the matrix.
