How to tell if your touchpad is damaged?

Currently having some problems with the touchpad and cursor, cursor is stuck in the middle of the screen currently and can't move or click. This problem happened a few minutes after I did a cleaning of the touchpad with soap, water, and cloth. At first the cusor was alright but my touchpad doesn't have a middle line showing what's right or left. I tapped the left side but the touchpad counted it as a right click and not left. The only way I could do a left click was to tap on the edge of the left touchpad. Few minutes after that my cursor had disappeared. I tried system restore and it was still gone. The only way I could bring it was through changing registry editor and enable cursor suppression. After that my cusor just stayed in the middle. It couldn't move or click. I may have also added a lot of water. I tried everything thinking it was the cursor but it might just be the touchpad. I'm planning to buy a mouse in the future but I just want to make sure it's the touchpad. I also checked if the touchpad was disabled and it wasn't.

Hi, my name is Talita. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'll be glad help you today.

I'm sorry to hear that. Please try to update the driver. In the Windows search bar look for Device Manager.

Then look for Mouse and other pointing devices. Right click try to update the driver

If that doesn't work, try going to the manufacturer's website. Through the brand and model of your computer, download the most current drivers compatible with Windows 10.

Unfortunately if these solutions didn't work this could be a hardware issue, ie a physical issue with your touchpad

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any more questions.

    Sincerely

    Talita C.

Hi Talita, unfortunately it didn't work. Will buying a mouse work? I never bought a mouse before, does it have to be compatible with my laptop or can I just buy any mouse from my nearest walmart and plug it in?

I'm sorry to hear that. Choose a Windows 10 compatible mouse, a model of your choice. There are many brand options. If you choose a usb mouse, just plug it into your USB port and it will work. There is also a bluetooth mouse where no cable is needed.

We are available if you have any further questions. If you don't have any more questions at the moment, please mark as answered question. :)

    Sincerely

    Talita C
