I am not very IT savvy and I will need step-by-step instructions for networking two (2) desktop PCs,

When I check the Network and Internet Status of the first PC, it indicates that it has a "Private Network 2". When I check the Network and Internet Status of the second PC, it indicates that it has a "Private Network 3". I think that they are both connected to a Private Network, but not the same network.

    Hello MitchellXP, welcome to the Microsoft community my name is Luiz Cruz, I am a Windows 10 expert user and would be happy to help you;

    I understand that you want to create a local network to access files and folders between computers;

    To do this, please follow the instructions below:

    Press Windows key + I and access settings;

    Click on Network and Internet;

    Scroll down and click Network and Sharing Center;

    On the left of the screen, click Change advanced sharing settings;

    Click the down arrow next to Private and check the options: Enable network discovery, Enable automatic configuration of network connected devices and Enable file and printer sharing;

    Click the arrow next to Guest or Public and check the options: Enable network discovery and Enable file and printer sharing;

    Finally, click the arrow next to All networks and check the options: Enable sharing so that anyone with network access can read and write files in public folders and Disable password-protected sharing;

    Note: Do this on the two computers you want to access the network;

    I hope I helped, see you soon!

    Hello,

    I want to let you know that I received your instructions, and I applied them. I now have my two Desktop Windows 10 Computers in a network and able to communicate with each other. I want to thank you profusely; I have been trying to network the two computers for years.

     I still have one question though. From the Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center page, Under the heading “View your active Network” there is the name of the private network associated with each computer. Why does the network names differ on my two computers? On one computer, the text reads “Private Network 2”, and on the other, the text reads “Private Network 3”. I thought that if computers are connected to the same network, the private network name should be the same. Is my assumption correct?

    Regards,

    MitchellXP
