Yes, however, it may be in a more acceptable form. Even a Repair Install or Clean Install may present the update in a different and more compatible form which is very common.

Hello,
When I go to shut down Windows, I see the usual screen that lists apps that need to be closed before the computer can shut down. Usually I just wait and my PC then shuts down it's self.
However, ever since I installed a Net Framework update, which is only a guess, I am getting an error message box with a big red X in it right before the computer powers it's self off. It goes by so fast that I can't see what it says. This does not happen every time.
I was wondering if I could use the system event viewer to see the error message and fix it? Would some one know how to do this?
I am noticing that Windows 10 21H1 is now available. Should I upgrade? I am running 20H2.
Would a registry cleaner help?
Also I had a program recently update its self that uses net frame work as well. Not sure but putting this in just in case.
Thanks.

Hi Rob,
Also, please start at the top of my previous message and answer those questions. What program is it?
The program that I installed was working fine, and probably still is. It a music instrument VST plugin from Waves. Are there any Error codes?
NopeAnything in the EV log to point to the issue?
NopeAre there any DMP files (there may not be)?
Nope
I am hoping the MS update for the month fixes this issue?
Question: If I uninstall the latest update from MS wouldn't it just get reinstalled after the monthly cumulative update?
Well, you could try uninstalling the suspect update(s). Could be your program does not like them. That would be a known issue for its support.

Sometimes a Repair Installation or even a Clean Installation of Windows is required to resolve the issues.
A Repair Installation that allows you to keep the programs and data though redundant backups are always a good idea.

Hello Rob,
Thanks for the quick reply. I am now certain that this problem started right after windows installed two updates. One was an update to the .net framework, and the other was a windows 10 update.
Tomorrow is the second Tuesday of the month when MS releases a new Windows 10 update. I have hopes maybe this update will fix my issue, but I am not counting on it.
Would you walk me through step by step the best way to trouble shoot and fix this issue? I was thinking it would use the system event viewer. I am willing to use the nirsoft apps if necessary.
Thanks.

Check with the support for that program just in case there are known issues. What program is it?
Please never ever use Registry Cleaners or supposed System Optimizers. Since Windows 7 SP2 (and really earlier) Registry Cleaners have not been needed and in fact, they are much more likely to cause damage to the Windows Installation while actually not fixing anything. If you want to make sure a program is fully uninstalled use a tool such as Revo Uninstaller - Free.

Using Event Viewer to Troubleshoot Problems

FullEventLogView - Free is a simple tool for Windows 10/8/7/Vista that displays in a table the details of all events from the event logs of Windows, including the event description. It allows you to view the events of your local computer, events of a remote computer on your network, and events stored in .evtx files. It also allows you to export the events list to text/csv/tab-delimited/html/xml file from the GUI and from the command line.

TIP : Options - Advanced Options - allows you to see a time frame instead of the whole file - set it to a bit before and after the time of the EVENT.

Look in C:\Windows for memory.dmp and in C:\Windows\minidump for xxxxxxxxx.dmp files.
We can analyze the DMP files if you make them available from the OneDrive or other file sharing sites (such as MediaFire). If you have problems uploading the minidumps copy them to the Desktop or the Documents folder and upload them from there.
