Windows removes unused printers

Hi,

Noticed a few computers started removing printers automatically. Narrowed it down to Windows 10 maintenance tasks removing them. Just not sure which task removes them and disabling all maintenance tasks doesn't seem wise.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\Maintenance

MaintenanceDisabled (DWORD32) = 1

https://serverfault.com/questions/824427/windows-10-unused-printers-being-automatically-removed-by-the-os/1065955#1065955

After making the change printers are no longer automatically removed. Is there a different way for windows not to remove disconnected printers?

Really, the only known ''solution'' is the one you made, if you moved the records carefully by making just this change, you can continue using it like this, it's no use giving you several ''solutions'' because nothing will change this feature of the system itself, if you wish, you can continue using it this way.

Default printer seems to stay, however, when user travels between locations a second printer gets removed after sometime. Narrowed it down that the printer is not used.

I will disable maintenance and keep the printer instead of leaving the user frustrated that the printer is gone again. I hope to find out what is deleting the printer but so far I cannot find any info apart from the previous link.

Hello, my name is Claudeir, a user and independent consultant, it is very important to me that all your questions are answered and that you have a positive experience.

-It's really just a maintenance, if the system hasn't used the device for a long time, it disables, just that, did you set the printer as the default to see if the system stops disabling the device?

Really as you said, disabling the entire maintenance tool is not very smart, messing with the registers can be dangerous, be careful, my indication is that you just leave the printer as the default, and as far as I know there is no specific register for '' disable'' this feature, if it really bothers you, you can leave it as you did and solve the ''problem'', but my suggestion is to be careful when messing with the logs and try to just leave the printer as the default.

If the answer helped in any way, consider leaving your opinion, marking it as answered or leaving more details, so that we can continue the service, this is very important for us.

    Sincerely,

    Claudeir
