Sound not working after updating audio drivers

Hey,

after an automatic update from Windows Update on my Acer Nitro AN515-55 my sound (both speakers and headphones) stopped working (and when you test the speakers it will give you a pop-up window with "Failed to play test note."). To repair that, I uninstalled the audio driver under Device Manager -> Audio inputs and outputs and also -> Sound, video and game controllers. Then I installed the drivers from Acer official page for my pc (https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/8305?b=1) and installed Audio Driver Version: 6.0.9054.1 and Audio Console Driver Version: 1.20.235.0. Already during the uninstall and install process of the "Audio_Realtek_6.0.9054.1" the sound started working and was working even after both restarts of the computer. But once I was finished with this download/update when I went to windows update in the settings and "checked for updates" it would automatically (even when I don't want it!) download some "newer" version of this newly installed audio driver. These are the drivers that are installed when I check the update history -> driver updates (some might potentially not relate with my issue here) :

Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - MEDIA - 6.0.9180.1

Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - Extension - 6.0.9180.1 (2)

Intel(R) Corporation - System - 10.25.0.4114 (2)

Intel(R) Corporation - System - 10.25.0.4114

DTS - SoftwareComponent - 1.2.8.0

DTS - SoftwareComponent - 1.4.5.0

So it probably updates it from version 6.0.9054.1 to 6.0.9180.1 if I understand it correctly but something during this process makes it stop working. (I did this uninstall, reinstall, windows update process that I describe above 2 times to make sure something else didn't cause this and it always stopped working after the automatic updates after the restart and it always works before after just installing the official acer drivers.

Could someone help me? What should I do? I though of maybe downloading/installing some drivers even newer that would work so that windows update wouldn't offer me an update to a "newer" version or somehow disabling/prohibiting the update of this particular driver/s if that is possible? Please let me know if there is anything you think might work. I can have a working pc up until I check for new updates then it stops working but then I could never check for new updates (even the important ones) because of this...

    Hi there, My name is Aditya, and i am here to help;

By going to Device Manager (Which can be opened by typing "Device Manager" in the start search bar) you can click on your audio devices, and click roll back driver.

Rolling back your driver will bring it back to the last state might help

Try this, and let me know how it is.

Hi, I did found that option on the internet as well but unfortunately for me when I go to Device Manager and to properties of the audio device the "Roll Back Driver" option is greyed out and I cannot use it.

Hi, I actually did try this before posting this and yes this does work but again until I clicked on "Check for update" in Windows Update. Then it automatically started downloading updates if if found any even with this disabled.

*Addition to my post: In the "Events" of the audio device in "Device Manager" when I am in "Properties" there is an event with a description "Device not migrated". Maybe that could also mean something?

    Good Day MichalŠobr,

My name is Carlo, I am also using Windows 10 pc and community member like you. Let us work together to sort this out.

Visit this link to prevent your computer from installing automatic driver updates.

    https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/disable-auto...

Once done, uninstall the current driver then install the updated driver from your manufacturer website which is Acer.

Once done restart your computer and test the audio.

Please let me know how it goes.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    Sincerely,

    Carlo T.
