    Hi Hiam,

You only need to install that version of the .Net Framework, if some software is not working without it and specifically indicates you need to install that version.

If that is needed to be installed, open the old Control Panel, then go to Programs and Features, then click 'Turn Windows Features on or off' and tick the box for .Net Framework 3.5 and install that, it will also contain the version 2 and 1.1 of the .Net Framework.

Actually Dave I don't know what it is actually for.

But before resetting my pc, I did have that on my system.

So does it mean that my system requires it?

(It was Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1)

They may have been referring to two settings that should be enabled by default in...

Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On or Off (upper left column).

Verify that .NET Framework 3.5 (just the main tic box) and Legacy Components & Direct Play are enabled.

Direct Play is used by old D3D games (early DirectX).

"in order to run games smoothly"

    • Normally, if the version of .NET a software or game requires is not installed, or has been corrupted, it will not run at all.

    Hi Hiam,

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this.

It depends, sometimes you may need to install a .Net Framework version, if the dame is old.

What game are you trying to play, are you getting errors when you try to install it and if so, what is the exact error you are seeing?
