I am reinstalling windows and using repair computer to go into recovery mode and get to the command prompt, I have been using the clean command in diskpart to erase data because I think I have a virus, but have not tried the clean all command yet. I heard that clean all does a proper format but is for conventional drives, should I use it on ssd to completely erase data?

    Hi there,

There is no problem at all using clean command with HDD ( Hard Disk ) but it is not recommended for SSD ( Solid State Drives ) Because the way SSDs Work is different from HDDs and in SSDs The more your read and write the more your life span will Reduce Slowly

Two - Three times if you're doing this in a Year than it's Fine but it is not recommended to do so!

One Bonus Tip: if you are using SSD you don't need to Defrag your SSD! it will just reduce the lifespan of your SSD!

    Thanks, Stay Safe!

    Hello 1_ZoSo_1,

I am Jaspreet Singh an independent advisor.

While it is safe to use the command on SSD's using it too often will reduce the life expectancy of the ssd.
