How can I get faster transfer rates from the hotspot mode?

I have an application that needs more than the 300Mb or so offered up by the current Windows 10 hotspot mode. My understanding is that MS moved away from the well supported Soft-AP mode to Wifi-Direct. Giving up significant performance in the process. I have an Intel AX200 that I would like to use on 5Ghz with the full bandwidth it can offer. Presumably 2Gbs or so. How can I accomplish this?

I already knew this... which is why I am asking for a way to use Soft-AP, or some other mode I may not be aware of, instead of Wi-Fi Direct. Because that is something Microsoft decided to do with Windows 10 and screw those who needed, or wanted the bandwidth.

    Hi waldojim42 ,

The speed of the mobile hotspot in windows 10 is determined by the Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter, you can't do anything to increase this speed. However, the mobile hotspot feature was not designed to support the full bandwidth of the physical wi-fi adapter. If you need more bandwidth for your app, you don't need to use the mobile hotspot but the router's wi-fi network.

This is a machine I intend to be portable (ITX build) and connect equipment to that requires that sort of speed. Hauling around an entire network for it seems silly when the hardware can do it, and with previous Windows versions, the software could as well. If the application supported Linux, I would simply switch and be done with it. But it doesn't... so here I am wondering why the senseless artificial limitation, and if there is a way around it that isn't dropping back to Windows 8.

    Hi,

Windows 10 mobile hotspot uses the Wi-Fi Direct protocol. The Wi-Fi Direct protocol can reach a theoretical maximum speed of 250 Mbps. Read Frequently Asked Questions> How fast is Wi-Fi Direct? https://www.wi-fi.org/discover-wi-fi/wi-fi-direct

Connect with a device to the mobile hotspot, run a speedtest, what speed do you detect?
