Pc monitor blank screen with fans on, but keyboard and mouse not working.

Hi, I have set my computer to turn off display after 5 minutes or so of inactivity, and today when I tried to turn the display on again using the keyboard, it didn't work, and also the mouse was off. I tried turning on the caps lock light of the keyboard and it didn't work, which it normally does even when the monitor is off. There was no other way out so I pressed the reset switch on the case and it restarted normally. This has happened 2 times, both times the same things happened, and I had to use the same 'solution' to fix it. I am thinking that the reason this is happening is because I have crucial basics ddr4-2666mhz ram but I have overclocked it to 3000mhz and I have of course increased the voltage for the ram as well, but could it be that the ram is the issue? I really need this pc and want it to last long, thanks in advance!

Hi, I removed the ticks from all those devices in device manager and I've also turned off fast startup now. One detail that I want to let you know about is that My monitor shows a blue led light when it is in use, and yellow when it is idle and bascially turned off. Whenever this problem occurs, the blue light on the monitor is on, means that whenever windows is trying to shut down the monitor it's unable to do it and and for some reason the keyboard and mouse stop working as well., another thing is that the mouse lights are on normally like they would be. Will let you know if the device manager and the fast startup fixes work or not.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Yes, stop the computer from turning them off. The problem is the computer isn't 'smart' enough to know when you may need these devices and it can, and does, cause problems.

Recent updates from windows and possibly your computer manufacturer can add virtual HID devices to your devices list and these being allowed to be turned off can also cause issues. It's better to make sure your computer cannot turn any of them off as this setting does not cause any problems and makes sure your devices are always in an awake state.

Another setting that can solve this issue you are encountering is as follows:

Open Control Panel by typing: CONTROL PANEL into the search box on your taskbar and clicking on it in the results.

In the upper right of the windows where it says "View by:" make sure this is set to "Category".

    Click on "Hardware and Sound".

    Click on "Power Options".

On the left hand side click on "Choose what the power buttons do"

Click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable"

Remove the tick next to "Turn on fast start-up (recommended)"

    Click the "Save changes" button.

Let me know how you get on.

    Kindest regards,

    Neil

Hi! I checked that the keyboard and mouse aren't being turned off and they aren't.

But, in the human interface devices section, there are many devices with the box ticked to turn off the device. Should I uncheck these or are they not part of the problem?

I will try to lower the ram speeds as soon as possible to see if they are the issue, but this will be a long term experiment, because this only happens like once a month.

If the devices in device manager were the issue, why doesn't this happen always and only occasionaly? Thanks for the tips!

Hi, my name is Neil, and I'm a Windows 10 user like you.

Sorry you're having this issue with your computer.

Without knowing the specific circumstances and settings, your overclocked RAM could be the cause of your issue. The only real way to know if this is the cause is to set the RAM back to its default values and see if the problem persists.

However, you might have another issue that is causing this to happen.

Open your Device Manager by right clicking on your Start button and then clicking on Device Manager.

Go through your list of devices, paying extra attention to your keyboard and mouse, by right clicking on each device and choosing 'Properties'.

Click on the 'Power Management' tab (not all devices will have this tab) and then making sure there is NO tick next to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

It might be that your keyboard and mouse is being turned off to save power and then you won't be able to turn them back on again.

Check other devices under Device Manager too.

    I hope this helps.

    Kindest regards,

    Neil
