My WiFi keeps shutting down. Is this a symptom of a virus?

Hello,

I have Windows 10 and a WiFi set up in my home that has worked very well for years until these past two weeks. I've noticed that several times a day my Internet shuts down on my laptop, yet my Smart TV, which runs on the same home WiFi, still continues to work. I'm wondering if these WiFi shutdowns on my laptop are being caused by a virus. When I see that the WiFi has stopped, I reconnect it, which takes a minute or two, so no more than a mild inconvenience; yet, it's happening a lot and it just started recently.

Thanks,

Daffy D

    Hi Carlo,

My laptop is a Thinkpad X270, model 20HN. Where do I find the updated driver for that? I'd like to do it directly. I assume on Lenovo's website.

Again, do you think the WiFi shutdowns could have to do with a virus of some sort on my laptop?

    Thanks,

    Daffy D

    Hi Carlos,

Thank you for your prompt and detailed reply. I completed your first two suggestions, but I don't think they worked because my Internet stopped immediately after I updated the driver. I hope I did it correctly. Below is a picture of that driver, which I'm posting to find out if it was the correct target:

    Image

I'm not sure I feel comfortable doing the reset network settings. Will I have to immediately follow up with CMD and administrator, or are they two separate procedures?

If I reset the network will I have to put my password and user name back into the laptop?

Do you think this problem could have anything to do with a virus? Or is that something a virus wouldn't cause?

    Thanks,

    Daffy D
