Ah - I had read it as the male name Ian.
Hey ho - I learn a little more every time I have a problem!
Thanks for the explanation Franco.

I have just discovered that my PC is connected to a network named 'Ian'. I don't know who this might be, how it happened, or how long it's been like that, but I'm obviously not happy about it!
I'm not sufficiently tech savvy to instantly solve it, and can't afford to lose my internet connection for any length of time (I work from home, and use the internet constantly).
Could anybody give me some simple, step-by-step instructions to delete all internet connections and start again? I have installed Avast VPN, but don't know if that will help or hinder.

Really?!? Whose idea was it to name an ethernet connection 'Ian'??
I assume I'd somehow been hacked - thank you for reassuring me.
So that connection you see, named "Ian", is your ethernet connection, this is normal.
Hi Franco
I have only just (re)installed the VPN, having not had it for a year or so.
I connect to the internet via an ethernet cable, which I was advised to do to minimise instability in the conneciton.

Hi EMH1959 ,
temporarily uninstall Avast VPN and check if your pc is working properly.
Do you clarify how you connect with your pc to the internet, via a network cable or via Wi-Fi?
