Hi everybody

I need to set windows default browser to private mode without changing the browser setting to always start in private mode, is there any way to do that without harming the windows?

This is an example for Edge:

    1. Open Registry Editor
    2. Locate Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MSEdgeHTM\shell\open\command
    3. Edit (Default) item:

    Change from:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" --single-argument %1

    To:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" -inprivate --single-argument %1

You can see that -inprivate parameter was added.

Paths and names can differ from system to system, but you've got an idea.

Good day Babak1983! I am Independent Advisor Paul R. and I am glad to be able to provide assistance to you today. I understand that you are looking into having MS Edge set as InPrivate mode without changing the browser setting. Kindly check and try the steps below and see how it goes.

    • Open File Explorer and navigate to the path below
      C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
    • Look for Microsoft Edge and then right click on it and hover to Send to and then click on Desktop (create shortcut)
    • On the desktop right click on the MS Edge shortcut and click on Properties and then click on the Shortcut tab
    • On the Target field add --profile-directory=Default -inprivate at the end with a space after \msedge.exe" and then click on Apply and then OK
    • Right click on the MS Edge shortcut again from the desktop and then click on Pin to taskbar or you can either launch it from the shortcut and check if it is now on the InPrivate mode when launched

    Regards,

    Hi par_0511

thanks for paying attention, but no, that's not what I want, there is a misunderstanding, I don't want just lunch private mode!

I wanna set the windows default browser to open all links automatically in private mode but without changing the browser settings, so this way I could open all links in private but also I'll be able to open the browser normally with all tabs open where I left last time
