Windows Full Reset: The Computer Restarted Unexpectedly...

So, this is a topic that has been covered elsewhere, but my issue has a further complication.

My computer was really slow, so I wanted to do a full reset and wipe everything (after doing a backup of my data first).

After quite a few hours, the computer had done its wiping and then restarted to begin with the installation.

It was at this point that the error message appeared: 'Install Windows: The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. The install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer and then restart the installation."

I then click okay and it restarts and the same thing happens.

There are a few website covering this but they cover it from the perspective of still being able to access windows (solutions involving command prompt, regedit etc).

In this instance, I have nothing. The computer has been completed wiped - there is no OS.

I have looked at trying a new-install via an ISO, but for that you need a windows 10 installation key and I only have a windows 7 installation key because I automatically upgraded during the free period (as most people did).

How on earth do I get out of this loop? I can't start my computer at all...

Regards,

Rob

Hello Robert, how are you?

Welcome to the Microsoft Community!

My name is Paloma B., I'm an independent advisor, I'm here to help you in the best possible way.

I understand that you would like to reset your computer.

In this case, first I suggest you try to reset as instructed below.

If this is not possible, you will need to perform a clean installation of Windows 7 that you have a valid license for activation, after that just use the Microsoft MCT tool to upgrade back to Windows 10.

Please check if the procedure below helps to carry out this procedure.

Step 1

Create installation media on this computer or other if necessary.

Follow the guidelines on the link below, please:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

Step 2

Configure in your computer's BIOS to start via the USB installation.

***If you have any questions on how to start the USB installation, you can refer to this guide please.

https://www.groovypost.com/howto/bios-uefi-setu...

  1. Boot with the Pen Drive;
  2. When the installation window appears, click Repair your computer;
  3. Click Troubleshooting;
  4. Advanced options;
  5. Click Restore PC > Choose "Remove All".

I await news.

If these procedures helped you in any way, please click on "I solved my problem" and also mark as an answer, so you can help others users.
