Hi, I am currently running windows 10 21H1 with the build version 19043.1110. My problem is that I was looking for the "High Performance" mode in the windows additional power plan. But I found that there was only one mode ("Balanced Mode"), the other three option(High Performance, Power Saver and Ultimate Performance) were disappeared. So I tried to enter the command "powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61" to restore the missing modes. When I type the commands in command prompt it shows that related mode is added to the setting. But I found no option was added to the setting even after typing the command. It still shows that there is only one option which is "Balanced Mode". And I also tried to edit the registry in the path "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power" and set the value of 'CsEnabled" from 1 to 0. But my luck!!!! I didn't find any option named "CsEnabled" in that directory. So can anyone please help me with this? It's necessary for me to restore the "High Performance" mode to run my system smoothly.

Thank You.

My system Specs:

Device: Dell inspiron 14 5406 2-1 Laptop

CPU- Intel core i7 1165G7

RAM- 16 GB

GPU- Nvidia Geforce MX330 2GB GDDR5

Hi Shafin, I am Paulo, an Independent Advisor willing to help.

Your computer most probably supports modern standby that is why you can only have the Balanced power plan. Modern standby replaces the legacy standby (S3) in most computers nowadays.

You can confirm if this is the case when you enter powercfg -a in the command prompt. If it says "Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) Network Connected" then modern standby is active.

Unfortunately, the registry method CSEnabled won't work on newer laptops. There's no safe way that I can think of to get back the old power schemes as your PC's manufacturer most probably removed any S3 code from BIOS.

You might as well check this article about Modern Standby vs S3

You can also click on your battery icon and see if there is a slider there so you can set it to Best Performance.

    I hope this info helps

Thank you so much for your answer. It has solved my problem.

But one thing makes me worried. The reddit link you provide says "Up from Windows 10 2004 (2020 May update), MS also removed the CsEnabled option from registry. You can't revert back to S3 now anymore, and are stuck with bad modern standby, which is a ticking time bomb, can melt your laptop to death or drain your battery in 1-2 hours randomly. Or has just bad drain in general, compared to S3." What does it actually mean?

Well, the advantages of modern standby for me are the instant on/off and the updated system (emails, updates, etc.) even when in a sleep state.

I've seen this post though from another forum to disable the modern standby but you can do it at your own risk and I can't guarantee that it will work on your laptop.

Also, there are other ways for an app to run on high performance. In Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics Settings. You can choose an app and set it to high performance so it will use your dedicated GPU.

That means you want to say that there is no way to get back to the older version from where I can restore all the power options, doesn't it?

is modern standby mode good for newer laptop?
