Whenever I open the 'Run' software it says "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." I have tried everything, going through regedit, deleting files that arent needed, tried opening it using the command prompt. And nothing, please does somebody know how to fix it properly.

    Hi Layton,

Click your Start Button, type regedit and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.

Click View and make sure 'Address Bar' is turned on.

Paste this into the Address Bar at the top and hit Enter.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\

In the Explorer key (folder) in the left pane is there a sub-key named 'DisallowRun'?

    When you see the notice

"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

or similar wording to that effect, it usually means that the action you wish to take is controlled by a group policy. If you have the Professional edition of Windows 10, and access to a user account with Administrator permissions, you can use the Group Policy Editor to remove the 'restrictions in effect.' If that's what you'd like to try, I'll certainly show you how its done.

In general, when you are working through a computer problem, 'going through regedit and deleting files that aren't needed' is the wrong approach, and could have far-reaching consequences. The better way is to try to understand what's going on. Only then can you come up with an appropriate - and safe - solution.

Also, if you're wondering "who the heck is my system administrator," I can explain that too.

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this, if your PC is in any way linked to a work or school account, that will cause that error.

    Open the Settings App.

    Go to Accounts.

Select Emails and Accounts, if there is a work or school Email listed there, remove it.

Select Access Work or School, if there is a work or school Email listed there, remove it.

Close the Settings App and restart (not shut down) your PC.
