Screen resolution change – suddenly went widescreen

All of a sudden, Bang, my screen went to a widescreen format and I cannot change it. I followed all of the steps I could find in the November, 2017 thread. I found and updated my AMD driver to know affect. There've been a lot of updates under the bridge since then and I'm wondering what I can do here in 2021?? Your help will be appreciated. I have had issues in the past and dealt with you guys and you have been absolutely wonderful every time!

I'm running a desktop Windows 10 with Chrome (if that makes any difference).

    Dear stevied234,

Thanks for reaching out! I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I will be happy to assist you in this regard.

May I know which error are you facing when you want to change the screen resolution?

Are you able to change the screen to the recommended one?

To troubleshoot this issue, kindly do the steps below:

1-Go to Start > Settings > System > Display > Scroll down to Display Resolution and change it to the Recommended one.

    2-Check for updates:

Start > Settings > Update and Security > Check for update.

3-Try to Update the graphics card driver:

Press Win + X > Device Manager > Navigate to your graphics card driver > Update it.

4-If the issue persists, instead of updating, uninstall it, download the latest driver from the manufacturer's website, and re-install it.

Please let me know if you need further assistance and keep me updated.

    Dear Steve,

Thanks for getting back to this thread and updating me.

Normally, If you have two graphics card drivers one Built-in and the other one is an external one installed on your computer, the Microsoft Operating system will revert to a standard driver or the same default driver that used during the original installation of the operating system.

Go to Device Manager > Expand Display Adapter > Check how many display drivers appear in the list?

To be more sure, you can contact your graphics card manufacturer's support services to provide you with the latest driver and information in this regard.

Feel free to ask if you have more questions.

    Hey Diary,

Thanks for the reply. I must get this fixed as it seems to be causing my Wi-Fi to buffer so badly I cannot watch videos. I've been driving my complex's Wi-Fi manager absolutely bonkers.

This appears to be somewhat a consolidation of the 2017 stream putting everything into a single point. Thank you for that. Both the size and resolution are on the recommended, I am running the latest version of Windows, I updated my graphics card yesterday (the only thing I do differently than your instructions is I get to device manager by right-clicking the start button and my machine calls the graphics card "Display adapters") though I double-checked it again today and I am running the latest.

The only thing I haven't done is uninstall it and get a new AMD Radeon HD 8570.. This is the card that came with the computer when I got it seven years ago. I wanted to get you a reply quickly as I cannot work much until later today and will definitely, I always keep people updated on my progress.

Thank you for your assistance, Steve.
