Preventing Edge From Auto-Launching

I keep deleting the MicrosoftEdgeAutoLaunch entry from the registry but it keeps getting put back.

Please, don't tell me it has no impact on startup. True or not that excuse is too old.

What if I allowed 10 programs run at startup with each having little impact. It adds up.

How can I disable this??

Hi JJ. I'm Greg, an Independent Advisor.

See fixes for Edge opening at Startup:

    https://thegeekpage.com/how-to-stop-microsoft-e...

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-e...

    https://www.gamerevolution.com/guides/652013-wh...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3nFJWPtpR4

If those don't help or stick, make sure it's removed from all five places where Startup items can hide which are covered in Step 4 of this checklist: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

If you want to report this to Edge Developers you can choose the Edge Hub (three dots to right of URL address bar) then Help & Feedback, then Feedback form to fill out. They will not even see it here, as this is a tech forums where mostly volunteers try to help others with their problems.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.

    Duh.

I found the setting in Edge. Never thought to look therte.

    System-Startup Boost.

Don't know why I put the path to it. I'm probably the only one that who didn't think to look in Settings.

    Yes it is.

Turned off 'Startup Boost' yesterday afternoon and it hasn't returned.

The other places to look for Startup items are in Step 4 of the checklist I gave you here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for.... The step is fully explanatory and tells you how to judge what should stay and what can go.

Is the Setting in Edge mentioned in the other tutorial I gave you enough to turn it off now?

If so I am glad it helped. Let me know if there's anything else. I'll stay subscribed to this thread in case you need anything else, until the system locks it in a few months.

Also when ready please mark the post which helped most as the Answer (or Resolved), to help others. A rating is also appreciated.

    None worked.

What are these five places for startup items? I'm only aware of two. Minus the RunOnce:

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
