I installed windows 7 on my old hardware 2 months ago.

I had the iso but I did not have the key with it. what is the product key to my copy of windows 7 ultimate?

product id showed above.

Product I.D. does not help find a product key.

Find your downloads and product keys

Most software you buy directly from Microsoft Store as a digital download, like Office, Windows, and Xbox games, can be downloaded, installed, or reinstalled in order history. Find the software and then select Product key/Install*.*

If OEM preinstalled (Dell, HP, etc.) license:

The COA sticker, which has the Product Key on it, is either on the underside of the Laptop or in the Battery Compartment.

With a Desktop it is either on the side, rear or top of the Computer Case.

Product Key finder programs do NOT find a useable product key on OEM preinstalled operating systems (Dell, HP, etc.)

Key Finder Programs used on preinstalled Operating Systems only find the Manufacturer's Product Key which was used on multiple machines during manufacture and what they find is not suitable to use for a reinstall or activation problems.

You could not have installed Windows 7 you bought on Amazon without the Microsoft Product Key. The installation process required you to type it in to activate.

If you did not keep a copy of that code, you are out of luck. Its a bit like buying a car and failing to keep the purchase papers.

Its a shame because that kind of licence is NOT tied to the specific computer it was first installed in, like all OEM Windows 7 licences. That licence can be used to install Windows 7 in any computer as long as it is in just one at a time.

If that did not help you: You only bought a Windows 7 DVD.

You got ripped off, as the Windows 7 ISO was available for free if you had asked here.

With the problem you now have, I can not recommend anywhere safe top buy 7.

And remember this:

You do not buy a Product Key by itself, as they are normally stolen/pirated, Volume Licenses which are not for private use, or MSDN keys which are not to be sold by the original subscription holder.

Make sure that you buy the complete sealed package (DVD, license)
