Windows 10 unable to recognise EXFAT drive on USB

Hi

I have an EXFAT drive which was formatted on a Synology DSM6. I need to plug this drive in to do some checks, but my Windows does not recognise the drive and does not show up on the File Explorer. I then downloaded Aomei Partition Assistant which was able to read it.

Why does Window not recognise the drive? Isn't EXFAT supposed to be plug and play?

    Can you try this?

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/win...

Go to computer management and right click drive in question, mark as active and then assign a drive letter. After which, Windows might ask to run a scan and fix, do this and it will work.

Hi, yes. I have tried all USB ports, but no luck.

On device manager, I can see it on the devices and printers page.

I ran diskmgmt.msc and it is listed as Disk4 with 1 partition. However, I am unable to mark the partition as active as it is blanked out. And am also unable to assign a drive letter to it.

Any other solutions other than to use a Mac to check my drive?

Thanks Justin, when you right-click the partition, do you see any options?

    In the search,

type cmd, right-click it and choose run as administrator.

    Type diskpart and press enter.

Then type these commands one by one:

    List disk

    select disk 1

    list partition

    list volume

Take a screenshot of the window and post in the next reply.

    Hello Justin,

I am Sumit here to assist you with this question.

ExFAT sometimes indeed does not get recognized in Windows. Do you see it in the device manager?

Have you tried plugging in to a different port?
